So, I want to act and I can't find places near me that allow me to act... I can't really sing.. so the school plays aren't really my thing.

I've found a couple and I am not sure if they are legit.. no legit is the wrong word, I am not sure if they are scamming me, or if they are fake.

I do not intend to pay money so I can have a profile in one these websites... I think those are scams.

Now these are some of the ones I have encountered.

http://www.youmodelandact.com/philadelphia/casting_calls_philadelphia.php?se=g
http://www.moviex.com/
http://www.extrasformovies.com/ (I'm thinking that is not one.. I think that is one of those sites you call for an actor.. hmmm. )
http://www.actingbiz.com
http://www.casting-call.us/index5.php?gclid=CJGr9diAsJICFRkyFQodJFVTQw

Help!
I do not want to register yet... I want to have your thoughts and experiences.. if you have them.

Thanks again CA!

In my experience my acting friends acted through school, art community centers, and local theatre. For other gigs, they got an agent. None of them ever listed through a "casting site."

I occasionally do tv and film extra work, and I wouldn't sign up to a website. Get an agent. You could try signing up with Ugly/Rage model agency (not my agency, but I know they have offices in the US). Be prepared to spend a lot of time on set waiting for something to do; I usually take my sb with me.

If you're serious about acting as a career, think about getting some training,- extra work is okay, but it's not gonna make you a star. Good luck anyway..

Thanks guys, hmmm I think moviex is legit although you are right...

Funny thing, (btw srry for replying late)
I was watching the recruit and I saw that the extra caster was Dupere-Taylor and I'm like hmmm let's see if she has a website! :D lol!
I search no luck, so I'm like ehhh for the heck of it I google: Extra Casts in Maryland, I FIND A SEARCH AND I'm LIKE OH YEAH! I CLICK AND I'M LIKE INVASION? SOUNDS AWESOME! I read... it's a 2005 article! :'(

hahah... yeah and that was today... So hmmm I think that a good thing to do is to search extras casting in (STATE) 2008, I was able to find a website that shows what people want... and so Hahah.. most of them are 18-over

hmmm any sites you guys know or something near the maryland area?

Uhh, well I don't know that Maryland is a hot-bed of acting activity. Maybe if you went a little more south to DC or NYC, but otherwise it would probably only be the occational on-location shoot that would happen every few yrs or so (and generally they put calls out to local newspapers in those cases).

If you're under 18, that means even less resources and ability to travel so I'd have to suggest doing what most kids do and acting at your school and community arts centers until you can go to college or move to more acting-oriented area.

G'Luck.
