How do i make my color swatches look like a color wheel?

How do i make my color swatches look like a color wheel, like in the Rich Doble video?

Yeah , I to would love to know this. Nox uses one in the downloadable DVD, I was wondering how he did that.

I believe it's a swatch set that Ron Lemen actually made from scratch, and Nox just made it available on his video download... I don't think there's a built on photoshop option to just open up a color wheel.

Isn't that what you want?

Basically, it's the impressionist palette with 12 chroma swatches, with inner circle being medium chroma, outer circle being low chroma. The goal trying to make each swatch the same value regardless of how much muting you do with its gray value.

Generally, it's done in oils....but principle is the same regardless of the media.

If I remember correctly, the colorwheel file came with the Nox video (which you all should go buy and download anyway!). But I also think Ron made the file available somewhere as well, sorry can't remember where.

Some people feel that the wheel Nox uses is too large and has redundant colors, so for a more compact version, go here: http://k2lux.net/2007/12/13/color-wheel-swatchespalette/ and download the color wheel linked at the end of the article. It's called k2l_colorwheel.aco

Then open up your C drive and go to Program Files -> Adobe -> Photoshop -> Presets - > Color Swatches and drop the .aco file in there. when you start up photoshop the next time, the wheel will available under your color swatches menu. Have fun!

you have to delete the already default photoshop swatches
that appear above the ones you import and then u resize the swatch
window until it makes the shape of the colour wheel.

Every "space" in the swatches color wheel is a white square. It's a matter of arranging the swatches so that when the swatch window is sized correctly, all the colored swatches fall into place around the white swatches, creating a circle.

Thanks for the help everyone. I didn't know it came with the video. I have pretty much every other massive black video, i might as well just download the Nox one.

If someone shared his own version of color whell then I'll post mine. I based it on Nox one but it takes less space (minimum width of Swatches window). It was hard to make it readable but I think I was succesful.

Just throwing a question out before the thread becomes redundant. Do people who already understand colour theory and the wheel actually need his set up? Would it not be easier and clear up the workspace by disabling the swatch window and just use the HSB or even the colour picker?

As for the swatch itself, you could make any shape if you put enough time into it and in the right order.

The idea is (I think) to have a nice and useful set of colours (like on a real palette with your real colours of choice). You get enough colour variations with the "mixing" that happens when you have different opacities and layers on your canvas/image. These you can get with the colour picker directly from your work.

It probably works faster if you already know colour theory (being more intuitive than rows and rows of simply linearly aligned value, hue, and saturation levels), and if you really need more work-space then you can always tab all the menus away.

well...i can't make the swatches in the shape of color wheel...i tried deleting all other swatches but it didn't work either...i made it bigger but no..no wheel...just seperated colors like small swatches connected to each others..and yeah..i have the original nox color wheel aco.

any HELP PLZ to get it in the shape of wheel

Cool idea, but there really isn't a hugely compelling reason I can think of to do that. You can more easily just make a small document to act as a color picking pallette, and keep it open in the space you'd normally keep your swatches open. Here's an example I made, that I use when I work in greyscale (I like a warm greyscale). I just open the file and keep it at the top or bottom of my screen, and color pick from it. You could easily do something similar with a color wheel. It won't open right away when you launch Photoshop, but you can make an action that opens that file and then bind it to an easy key, making it very painless.

Abr7man, I think you have to resize the swatch pallet till changes to the wheel. Mine looked similar to yours at first, but then I fiddled with the size and it turned out like so.
