Oblio - where have you been? nice to see you back with some sp's :D you should do those crazy angled sp's they we really cool!

Groover - i like your colours they are very nice and warm. i try painting like that in painter and it doesn't work so well for me is there a technique you have or is it just from practice practice and more practice?

Lumei - nice sp it is cool that you can be so confident with your strokes. i tend to be very timid and not satisfied with mine like Giacometti (sp?)

quick question for everyone, how long to you usually spend on your sp's time wise? i spend anyware from 10 minutes to almost an hour sometimes. it depends if my right side of the brain kicks my lefts sides ass :bash:

here is mine

LUMEi

i spend bout 10min to an hr also depending on mood. if i don't get it right by an hr i don't feel the need to continue, so i usually stop there. It's been a while since i've really sat down and took the time to finish anything.

Thanks for the comments guys.

JMac - I'm still really new to digital painting (about 6 weeks) so I guess I'm still feeling it out, I don't really have a process down yet, sometimes I get lucky and sometimes not.

This pic is an example of not getting lucky. I really struggled with it and probably ended up working on it for almost 2 hours just trying to save it and I still don't like it.

Btw, nice to see new people. Where'd everyone from last month go?

I wish i could find some time to do some drawings :D
Realy.. al i ever draw i upload here (well.. except some crap i do while at work (i keep a paper under the keyboard and doodle) )

Benxo - lovely ones - love the slight shadow on your forehead. I have to learn from you.

Jhibbs - man.. you already know i like your brush work. Always welcom.
Ilex - THAT IS AMAZING. One of the best i've seen fro you. I realy love that one. Thx.

Jeff - i think you could mind simetry a bit (the eyes seem not to sit on the same line :( ) Apart from that... it's realy good. Try to enhance the form - think it more 3D - the back of the chin in the 1st and the back of the head.. are a bit unclear - try to draw a skull over it.

J Mac-i can see you struggling wth trying to break the face into planes... dont think of it as less serious, it will help alot in the future. did i already tell you to try out vine charcoal? i dont wanna sound like a moron saying it twice :P

ilex-nice prints, i think those are the first printmaking SPs in this subforum so far-nicely handled. woodblock?

duracel-the texture from the strokes works well on the sweater, but im not quite as sure about the face...colors are great though.

benzo-yea my hair is like this when i wake up, honest. its just lately i started gelling it like that :P in the one with the neck, the eyes seem a bit large and the neck a bit light for the head

heres a few from me, (only one of me, im still doing them of others as much as possible) all are 11x14 white paper with brush pen, Tria ink, colored pencil, and gouache.

Hey thank you jhibbs and duracel, i really appreciate your help!! Jhibbs you say vine charcoal.... i never used it before beside just messing around with it in class once or twice. I think i shall try it out :D Duracel i think i understand what you mean, i should flow with my drawings and get it down and then referance anotomy and structure to reinforce what is there and make sure everything is correct, if need be?! Thank you for your help it is nice when you here what other people have to say :D

killing.people - not bad for a quick one, but there isn't to much i can say about it either, besides good stuff :)

duracel - not shabby for a quickie i wish mine looked half as decent when i do quick ones :D

jhibbs - those rock they are so cool! i like the colours they are very nice. That is great work, the 3rd one is my favorite. i find that one to be very well balanced and those little crature things are are funny. Good work me like! :D

lionel - hey welcome back, and sorry about all that, but atleast you can always draw. nice sp it looks pretty good! painter or PS? It looks PS but i could be wrong :D

ok here are a couple of mine in pencil on newsprint.... i think i am going to try different materials for a while if any one has suggestions that would nice if they share them. I want to brake out of the norm!

ilustre - lovely - welcome to the club :-) I'm not sure f you ment it to get a bit caricatural - if not.. the upper part is a bit displaced and missproportioned. See onthe left of the img - above the ear.

Nimrod - oh boy.. why do you twist your soul like that always? It's a bad road. Sometimes people can't put in words or even thoughts what they feel. Do you look for a confirmation? Look inside and try to work your own feelings and make the most of that... basicaly without asking. No soul requirements or expectations from others... that's devil's job. If God would be there you would be already happy.
There is still place for it. I hope i didn't cross any line here. Just trying to say that your SP, well.. it's evil :chug:

endregan - measure measure measure. The put a strong light on your face and draw only the radk and light splashes. I hope you dig. I hope it helps.

Duracel - lovely as usual.

Android - ah.. welcome. Is this your fist atepmt? Looks lovely. you reamind me of a friend of mine :)

J Mac - yes.. that's the path - measure measure measure. Look Look Look.. and btw - you have hair and the rest of the head.. don't you? No i'm not asking too much too soon :p

Lionel - :chug: i know how that feels. and you still rock!

killing.people - no nose pencils? no nipple hair? odd :D

oblio - hmmm hair yeah....yeah i think i have someand i shall put some hairon my not so bald scalp haha thanks for the pointers :D

ilustre - welcome! and that is a nice sp, i am glad you posted your reference it helps. there is only small things here and there that are off but you did a good job overall.

endregan - glad to see you are back! not bad fornot doing them for a little while. I think you should try doing a sp with something you can touch i.e.; vine charcoal, pencils, markers, chalk what ever you like. "imo" it always helps to go do somehting different than you normally do or atleast trying different ways to an sp.

Duracel - oh that is cool. it is very stylized, but done well. and thank you!

Android i don't know if you always check out these threads but i want to atleast say thank you for you words of encouragment and i will try to do what you said :D

now here is mine a quickie, but it was fun and done in vine charcoal, thanks to jhibbs suggestion.

nova - welcome! that is pretty good sp, keep them coming!

duracel - nice expression it is really good! it almost reminds me of caravaggio's style of painting.

ilustre - np just here to help.

R_M - glad to see you are back! it has been awhile since you have been here. So....post more! :D That is an interesting pose and style, is it influenced by android?

Well i have been busy with getting stuff done for midterms and crap so i haven't had to much time to do a sp.....:( but i shall do one this weekend hopefully! anyways i was looking through my stuff for art that i have done so far, and i found my very first sp ever!!! I actually never picked up a pencil to draw until the fall 2001 and i didn't have any art education until summer 2002. this portrait was done 4/18/02, and aparently i stopped trying to do sp's after this b/c i thought this was so bad... i dunno

tarwater-pretty nice handling, though im not sure i like the whiteout or whatever that is. a general rule of thumb, mixing black and white mediums together is bad (usually has a bluish tint that sticks out like a sore thumb) good sense of form though, especially in the mouth area.

sorry ive been slackin, heres another with mixed medium. alot more success with just colored pencil over ink on this one.

http://www.geocities.com/jhibbs27/oct8.txt

jhibbs - thanks man. those last ones you did are awesome. I think what you're seeing on my drawing is the cool grey marker underdrawing, because I didn't use any white-out. You're right though about it sticking out like a sore thumb, next-time I won't use a marker, or at least use a lighter value one. Thanks.:) I'll try to do another soon.

Duracel, awesome feeling and style as always.
Jhibbs, your control of color is amazing to me.
JMac, I like how you're breaking your curves into multiple straights to simplify them. You should continue that through the rest of your drawing. Start out drawing light lines connecting landmarks (anything you can see, like a corner of a nose to the corner of the eye, etc.) and make sure all the triangles are the same as the shapes you see. Then do your drawing over it and you'll see your proportions and sense of structure improve. Here's mine, that took me 5 hours, 2 of which was just the light proportional lay in.

jmac-alot of improvement in this one, the proportions of the features to the head are alot better. before i saw the photo i thought you were alot younger (14-ish) midterms suck but keep it up :D

ilustre-try to not work from photos, try not to place the emphasis of your approach on details over shapes and forms. dont worry about the eyes or teeth, wait until its reading as a head. if you work from a photo for the next one, try using a really blurry one upside down :p

strokes are starting to make a TAD more sense, maybe
