A sneaker I designed, I kind of designed it as I modeled it so it may not be what a real sneaker would be like, I don't know anything about that, just tried to make it look neat-o :)

Rhino wsa used to model this, Rhino is a great modeler.
the only problem is it's tricky to make the meshes from the NURBS mdoel you create, but once you get the hang of that it's a breeze

very cool..I know that modeling concept shoes is industry standard now for big shoe companies like nike and so on..they use to actually make them out of rubber and vynal..crazy stuff they would go through 10,000 concept shoes a years then after they were done they would chop them up into little peices and use the shavings for playgrounds
anyway (sorry to side track) I really like the vibrance in teh colors and cut back on the amount of lace..very neat. However the grey texture you used for the inside of the shoe isn't working
because of too much tileing you are getting whats called a moray pattern (I think thats how it's spelled) this is caused by light that travels in waves to our eye in patterns or amplified ways that cancel each other out..you ould try ovelaying another patern ontop of it or custome making your own texture
Im not too familliar with Rhino so definatley ask another opinion.
very nice peice.

you're right, the grey area is really lame. problem is I spent so much time doing the model that I cheaped out on the texturing, it really needed a much better texture for the large expanses of grey.
Next time out I will budget much more time for making original texturing, the leather and the shoelaces came out nice but then the grey rubber is like the "red-headed step child"
The thing I get in trouble for most of the time is I am horrible at managing my time
I think a lot of the companies still make physical prototypes, like 2 years ago we did a project for a big shoe maker (mayb shouldn't use the name) and they were sending sketches out to Thailand or some place around therre to have a third party build physical prototypes, when will they learn?

nice work, but are the meshes you get out of rhino always that dirty??

That wireframe is a reduced polygon version I used for the interactive real-time version I made using "Viewpoint", you can try it here:
http://www.herurubin.com/iyon/ (http://)
This was reduced from about 500,000 down to 25,000, but since it doesn't need to deform, even distribution of polygons isn't important. I then applied renderings of the hires model and applied it to the lowres version to give it a very detailed look, while keeping it low poly enoguh that even users with slower computer could render the shoe in real time and interact with it
