Absolutely amazing! That skin is exceptional and the color choices are really good.

That expression on the right guys face draws you to it. And that expression is golden :)

It's very pleasing to look at composition-wise :)

Yet another brilliant post of yours, Mr. Foster. Illustration at it's best.

Amazing work man! This is great, so great. Is there a law stopping man from marrying a painting? :P

I'm really sleep deprived atm but as soon as I opened this it hit my eyes and instantaneously shot knowledge about picture-making into my head. I don't know how you got so much volume and motion into that background made of visible strokes but you did.
Only crit is about the ground level/plane. The oil drills look a *little* funny I think? In that the first one might be too low and could benefit from being taller, almost tickling the guy on the right. The look stuffed in there. Am I nitpicking? Everything else seems balanced to me...
Thanks for posting.

Oooh, blimps (zeppelins) in that story again? I read Michael Moorcock for more than 20 years now (starting with Elric of Melnibone and such) - you absolute caught the mood he has in his writings.

Excellent, just great! Pure digital or a mix ? Do you still mix. I wish I did all my art with traditional mediums, so it can be touched as well as seen :)
-This one should hang on a wall somewhere, it's got a great decorating value as well as being a great illustration.

Wow, I love it! The composition, the colors and the background are superb! I wonder how long do you work on a cover art like this?

i really enjoy your work. it is so expressive and amazing! i like how you leave your strokes to help suggest movement. also the colours you choose are great for the whole picture. how big is the original? i am just wondering what size you start at. great stuff me want more please :D

What a great piece. The overall mood of a twister was caught perfectly. Although is it abstract is some ways?

Only crit is about the ground level/plane. The oil drills look a *little* funny I think

I sorta agree with that, but I like the scewed approach to the perspective.
Very nice piece Jon.

cool stuff
i'd like to see you experiment more with different types of cloud forminations. You seem to put them in alot of your paintings and they usually all look rather similar.

Not saying it makes the painting bad, just saying it would be cool to see you using some more-unique formations in future pieces.

Nice work. It needs some birds though:)

Excellent color.

sweeet another foster piece. this one is really great! the colours are a bit dull but i always love the final result and how you bring the colours in almost semi monochromatic style.

another great one

excellent. in my opinion, one of the best i've seen from you so far this year. i agree with J.P., in saying that your compositional skills are just fucking amazing. i particularly like the oil pumps along the bottom. i'm form texas, you know, so that really strikes a chord with me. i'm also very impressed with your "digital brush" marks. very analog looking. at this res, it looks traditional to me. i love you.-c36

thank you all for your replies. i am so glad you like this piece. turns out that i like this one as well. it has been a little while since i felt this way. but there was no art direction so if i could not make myself happy then well...

i will try and reply in more depth later.

i like the piece and particularly the color choices--though i think the swinging hook isn't as strongly resolved as i am wont to find in your illustrations. the suggestion of motion on the left side of the hook seems caught between a 'frozen in time' moment (clearly defined) and more of a motion blur. which for me ends up looking unfinished.
the sense of motion elswhere in the image is impeccable as always...protagonists are always ready to come tumbling through/out of the picture plane in your images :)
the heliplane thingamabob looks a little indistinct, but the art deco blimp is a real treat.

i've never read any stories by michael moorcock, though by the looks of this painting i think i might want to :)

oh, and this being my first post on a thread of yours, i'd just like to say i purchased your book and enjoy it immensely. a little skimpy of the sketches, though which are great!

Hey Jon, nothing beneficial to add, just my "Wowzers", to be honest the lap top Im on displays some images at a warped res so its not clear though theres no doubt if its quality.

Moorcock was an author I read years back(dont read much these days.. if theres time to read then theres time to sketch) he wrote really interesting stories if I remember correctly. In fact now that you you've reminded me of him Im half tempted to score another read.
He wrote a book called 'The Golden Barge' when he was 18... I found out only after reading it... I was frickin beyond shocked, thats just insane. Grab it if you can.

Awesome job as the usual Jon, great expressions on the characters and love the roughness in your paintstrokes, really adds to the sense of a chaotic motion.

Really like the way all the elements tie together with the composition aswell, makes it very dynamic!

sorry for not getting back sooner. plus i bump my own thread this way.

darkcult, thanks but i am only master of my own domain.

kortez, thanks for mentioning the skin. it was quite by accident but i liked how it turned out. glad you like the composition. i was worried when trying this out that it was not going to work.

wildsprucemoose, thanks and i always think of peewee herman when a question comes up about liking something "why don't you marry it then!"

strych9ine, cool, but i need to work on dazzling the pants off or my wife.

targete, thank you but i must confess that i aim for simplicity as i worry that it is all i can handle. your compositions on the other hand tackle the most difficult of scenes with ease. as for painting i am slowly working my way back around to needing that feel again.

benzo, thanks but all of it i think by accident.

kress, thank you and the nit picking is what gets a piece to be better than the last.

groover mcnab, thanks

jester, thank you, i hope mr. moorcock likes the painting as well.

heiesuke, i think my main passion and focus in a painting is the play of light or in other words values.

ant4d, thank you, your words are very much appreciated.

joachim, love your work my friend (if i may be so bold). it is pure digital but the pull to go back to analog work is getting stronger.

robulus, this one came together rather quickly, but there must be at least fifteen hours in it.

j.mac, thank you, it was made in painter and photoshop at 300 dpi 5.5 in. by 7.875 in. basically just working for print resolution. if i want to make a large print of this i may run into some trouble.

joshua, ha! to the right.

iwasink, thank you and thanks for the input.

davi, thanks and i will work on that. but cumulus are the best!

philholland, thanks and yea some birds, that's the ticket!

endragan, color and i are always trying to figure each other out. but to be honest i make my paintings sort of monochromatic as it is the easiest way for me to make colors harmonize.

khangle81, how are you my talented friend? how is your book project coming along. i am always excited to see your newest work.

el coro, thank you, thank you. you know that your words mean a great deal to me. but sometimes i feel like a hollow shell when i think of measuring up to them. but you give me something to aspire to. now with that said get that portfolio together and lets get it off!

loga4, thank you.

gauss, thank you for your input it think you have very good criticisms. thanks also for getting the progressions book!

lukias, thanks for checking in and the heads up on the moorcock book. now make art and post it to make me cry with glee. you run through my head every time i sit down to sketch now.

gezstar, great to hear from you. love to see what you have been doing lately.

cos, actually it is both you and lukias that run around in my little noggin when sitting down to sketch. you both have had a profound impact on me. thank you.

main loop, thanks for picking up the book and thanks for checking out this thread. glad you like it.
