Sorry I'm not really following the COLOR part of this, was at work and only had paper and pencil. Anyway, I'm starting to draw again and this is my first attempt at a DSG in a long time... so be nice... :-p Looking forward to see what everyone comes up with.

The stripes are crap and I just wanted to put down basic colours and not spend alot of time on it colouring in. Took about 20-30 mins I think.

Took about 1 and a half on and off. Colouring was a bitch.
Couldn't get the hind legs right as much as I tried so in the end I left them.

Got a little carried away, spent about 2 hours. I forgot the little scale guy, but I imagined a person would come up to where the legs meet the body, making him about 10-12 feet tall and about 20 feet long.

Trying to come up with a desigh I liked took half an hour so the BG had to be sacrificed to the autoimposed time limit (1 hour circa)...

Howdy Ya'll.
You're a sneaky devil, Hand. Forcing me to use color and such.
T_Marasą: Nice pose, great sense of form. I feel from this image that I can understand the three dimensional shape. Love the whimsical markings too. Crit: the arms don't seem to agree with each other. One is very meaty at the top, the other seems spindly to me.
iambanana: I like the broad color choices. However, the disagreement between the perspective on the creature and the man is detracting from the image. Also, the markings look like an afterthought.
Fenster: LOL--nice personality, great style. I wouldn't know it was elephant sized from this rendering though.
Below is my entry. Normally I do a few sketches before committing myself but this time I ran with my inital concept. Is it working? How does the form read?
Thanks!
Ian

What size canvases does everyone work with? I feel like mine tend to be to small... this was a 7 x 5

Heres my attempt, just quickly gave it some colour.
It lives in the green mountains where it uses its strong nimble, finger like front feet to roll over rocks so it can eat the juicy roots of the rock plants growing from underneath. The armour on its back is to protect against falling rocks.

Wow, this has been a popular threat!
orkaboy: Nice form, cool outline. Looks more like a predator to me though. The rooting snout, the forward facing eyes and the overbuilt upper body contribute to this impression.
CuBixxx: Your size reference guy better watch out if your creature decides its time to "drop anchor." The tasty morsel on the ground looks like an upside-down bird with crinkled beak :) To me at least.
johnn: Ahh, nice to see riskier takes on the design. However, I think the front shoulders are anatomically under developed. Of course, there is nothing to say that this creature has anything to do with terrestrial anatomy but it might read better with a scapula and some connective muscles in there.
Tommoy: Ha ha! Love it--are those birds on its back? The back legs don't seem to agree with the walking posture of the front legs.
Rarebit: I like the impressionistic style.
PsiBug: Looks like it should be an illustration in a textbook. "The seemingly docile and slow moving Simptubara may appear to be gentle, but when provoked..."
Cheers,
Ian

Well here's 2 hours worth of drawing and coloring and it's not 100% done. I would of loved to of had it done today, but seeing that I don't have a better version than Elements 3 at home and I can use CS3 every other day in school, I wait for tomorrow to finish this.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve this guy? I really like him! :)

Peg: I really like your creature! :) It looks humanoid and the position it's in is very dramatic.
IanStrandberg: When I saw your picture I chuckled a little. The creature's design itself is really organic looking and I love how you made it look very believable in it's detail.
Kizashi:: Hey awesome picture! I too just started posting and so far I'm liking the outcome of several of my drawings.
theta-ix:: Very cutsie looking. I enjoy how you incorporated the chub it's body. Just something I have to saw "Aww" too. :)
