I thing this is a cool idea. I use the same method when i sketch. I believe experimentation is very important.

These are really nice sketchs and i think the third one is my faveourite. Its a really nice pose you chose. The shadowing looks good too.

Cool idea. These look good. High contrast and that's what you need when doing these I suppose, if you did full value variation it could take a long long time that is uneeded. Yeah these are looking fine. They all have something special to them that I like about their various genres.
