Missed a few there. I debated as to whether to share the value shaded version or just the line art. Ultimately I'm here to learn so I beg you to help me figure out how I can get a better feel for constructing value. Can you recommend resources for better understanding?

Personally I think I need to invest myself in value studies from life and I probably should have sought or made some relevant reference. I'm happy I went in without it though because its got me thinking about the next step I need to take.

Ian: wow, its awesome. I'm glad you posted both, personally i think the values are fine. Only minor comment would be the neck/jawline of the boy. But its definatly an impressive picture.

Spent too long on this, and it's too scruffy. 1 hour 10.

Quick sketch, bit of colour to jazz it up.
took about an hour.

Heh, well this took a while longer than I was shooting for. It all probably averaged like 8 hours total. Generally I don't give my drawings an "interactive" environment (i.e. sitting in a bed compared to swimming in the ocean above seaweed). I really liked my transdimensional alien which is what led me to do the rest. I hope you all like it :)

VanValen, I love you for referencing Doctor Who (who doesn't want a TARDIS? :))

Cision: That's awesome! I love how the monster's seeping through the room as if the traveler itself was bending reality trying to get into the bedroom. Really very cool. :)

Thanks, I thought about making it come through the window, but where is the fun it that?

@cision- I love both the wall warping thing AND the creature design.
@goran- Excellent shading, the kid's face looks almost photorealistic, the whole composition have a nice cinematic feeling to it...

T_Marasą-Thank you ,I remember that old Terry Giliam movie "Time Bandits"
that's the feel I tried to achieve .You have clever "another dimension" idea there,
nice

T_Marasa: Cool--nice style, fun image.

Cision: So cool--a great, elegant effect.

Batim: The map reminds me of Time Bandits (which I had to suppress from my own mind when working on my submission).

Tommoy: I like the viewpoint, but the piece is kinda vague in the periphery. I realize that these are mostly just sketches, but I guess I want more! :) Also, thanks very much for your comments and paintover--they were very helpful to me!

Been incredibly busy this week, and due to many things, mentally drained... I even did the last DSG, but couldn't see it finished for some reason.

I forced myself to work on this one, though, and I'm happy I did.

I'll just save the admin the time and keep it a link as is. I really had this awesome idea in my head of this exact picture... Obviously a little more "clean" and colorful... But... Hey I'll get there. 45 min in the GIMP. Genius F610 tablet.

Ahhh, I know it's supposed to be a child =( Teenager, potentially?

Edit: shadows are a "little" messed up, as well. Oh well, still getting better in my eyes
