i'm trying desperately to keep up daily additions to my sketchbook, and in late summer i got a real boost to do more--these are just a few page scans from about a two week period. i love working in pen in my sketchbook--fast, stays put, lots of value range; i'm a messy guy typically but pen helped me to reign things in a bit--just contrast the first sketch in this group to the last one. anyhow, i've lurked in these forums for a while so i figured it was about time for an actual post; hopefully i'll be posting in the finished works forum soon with one of these pics worked over in photoshop.

i like the first three alot, they remind me of fallout style somewhat, which is one of my primary inspirations, I think you should work on refining your heads a bit more, it seems they are lacking attention.

it's true that there is some fallout inspiration at work--quite frankly it's a little hard to do giant shoulderpads any better than how the fallout designs have :) the original powered armor suit in fallout is a design of majesty.

and in regards to faces, you're quite right. in earlier years i was almost exclusively drawing inorganics, for which i have suffered and now am trying to atone for recently. :) i'm taking figure drawing again and i'm quite happy to say that i've got a better handle on people than i've really ever had (these sketches previous to the beginning of class). in fact, most recent pages of my sketchbook have been almost exclusively non-armored people, with a page devoted to 48 square thumbnails of just faces. i'm just shy of half--i call them 'brady boxes'... will post once i finish.

The dreaded red x's.

Damn, I wish this place would allow attachments.

i like the pens (i call them that) the strokes for me work well, mainly because they give depth. I am also a pen sketcher so your work looks clean infront of mine, but hey i prefer pen because they are brutal to mistakes. but anyway i like sketches and would like to see them in full colour glory. Cheers.:chug:

These are cool sort of post-apoc type marine thing. The looseness of your style really does wonders for your sketches in conveying attitude and emotion. I would clean up the lines more for a finished piece, but these are great sketches!

the second sketch I like best, even though his left arm looks a bit awkward.
I saw some fallout influence in these sketches but they reminded me much more of Juan Gimenez' work...metabarones, for example. a great source for inspiration.
anyway, cool sketches, reminding me how nice sketching with pens is!

:p

greets!

Youve inspired me to pick up a ball point and sketch with it. Interesting results! I think I like it. Thanks.

The first one is the best IMO. the hand, the head and the pose it fits perfectly. I really like that one. the rest are cool to but the first I find the best.
