Hey,

Thought I post some of the things here that I’ve done over the past few years and see if anybody can offer me some advice on what I can do to improve my art. Who knows, maybe this will motivate me to work harder and eventually improve. We’ll see.

(Most of these were too big to scan, so I took a snapshot of them.)

- 1st drawing is a portrait drawing of a male model using cheap color pastels. I think I was going for warm colors on the face and some slightly cool colors on the hair.

- 2nd drawing is the same model in a sitting position on top of a desk or something using brown conte crayon.

- 3rd drawing is a two point perspective cube drawing. Cubes reminded me of Q-bert so I added Q-bert in there.

Tiny update of a mannequin still life drawing done in black conte crayon.
The other drawing is wine still life drawing done with an ordinary white color pencil on some kind of black paper.

An update of a few drawing studies of a man doodling, my hand, and my feet. I did these a while back ago and they were all done with graphite pencils. I think I used 3H, HB, and 4B pencils.

I haven't really had much time to dedicate myself to improving my drawing skills, but here's a hand study I did the other day.

You are getting there my friend. Keep practicing. I'd suggest that you stay away from smudging b/c it only serves to muddy up your tones and flatten out images (in my opinion). Focus on things like structure, form and basic Tone. If I may suggest a tool to aid you. I see that you used a 3h and a couple of B's on one of the above images. You can achieve the full tonal range with one pencil, a Col-Erase black. I use it, and with a bit of practice you can get all the tonal range you need all in one pencil!
