Editing first post a bit, more or less go to the last page to see new stuff

new stuff dosnt means more finished ;D, Im following the "sketchbook" premise

Cirrus
March 16th, 2008, 07:13 AM
This is overall my most finished study from reference, hard to go beyond, tho I dont want to keep that direction, I wanna do that but somehow that is filled with a personal style, not just something realist

anyway lets see where can I sail with this ship that is digital color
editing first posts a bit to change the thumbnail

some sketch I did today, pencil + light coloring on photoshop

hm2k
March 17th, 2008, 05:43 AM
nice digis man, that last pic in the first post of the woman in orange is very nice. and your mig has a nice sketchy feel to it. nice keep posting

Rudeone
March 17th, 2008, 06:40 AM
Good stuff! the girl with the camera turned out really well. Would like to see more from you.

Cirrus
March 17th, 2008, 10:36 AM
thanks Rudeone and Hm2k, yeah ill keep posting stuff im doing around

this pencil I did it today, trying to make a more mangaish style, the hands are not totally good, I think its perspective and the conection to the arm what fails

the other one is a paint of a backyard thingy in photoshop

and the last one is something I posted in the first post but couldnt manage to open, its a painted pencil, which I need to work more on, was pretty much an experiment with layers

Cirrus
March 17th, 2008, 05:02 PM

You've got some nice stuff in here! I like the bar scene...kinda reminds me of Lautrec!

rattsang
March 18th, 2008, 10:10 AM
you got some nice stuffs here. really like the first one and you gotta love the zombie type pencil sketch.. some stuff looks kinda scratchy though - like the girl with blue hair, like it was done using only little pecky strokes.

keep up the good work :)

skorpi
March 18th, 2008, 10:48 AM
Nice start, I like your work.

A Little of drop of poison that everyone is gonna like ;-) keep it up sir...

Cirrus
March 18th, 2008, 05:04 PM
I'll try to reply to everybody since they took the time to come and look at my drawings

zweiDee: yeah man I gotta do a clean copy of the linework there and try to paint it in deep, cause I think the design and stuff its quite interesting
BRINKMAN!: thanks =D, ye the bar thingy, I wanna do some more stuff like that but with a bit more preparation, I like the ambient on it, lautrec hum I love his cabaret stuff awesome artist
skorpi: thanks man =)
RandAlThor: :D, took that title cause of a song from Tom Waitts

rattsang: thanks man, yeah about that picture your are right its painted with short strokes and the overall effect its like the skin was made of clay or something, I think the colors got to much of my atention there yet I wanna try clean it or else star over, ill attach the first version of that drawing where the short strokes crap its still more obvious

so attaching the drawing mentioned and a portrait I did today (pencil)

Dirty C
March 18th, 2008, 06:02 PM
This shit should be getting more replies

The two designy ones - the one with the gun and the one in thigh-deep water
are really quite nice. I'd like to see much more work like this.

katuz
March 18th, 2008, 06:07 PM
nice portrait man

Amir the night wolf
March 18th, 2008, 06:12 PM
cool work`s and yes you should get more replies

Cirrus
March 19th, 2008, 10:56 AM
Hello again, doing some repplies

Dirty C: the designy stuff is the most fresh stuff, perhaps because I dont care about the finished effect, I've taken a look at your sketchbook and its simply awesome =) so guess ill have to work harder to raise the level
katuz: thanks man, im glad that you like it
Amir the night wolf: thanks man, I guess replies will come eventually, the few ones I've got already made me see some stuff I could make better and think about so thats already a good start

Attaching now some sketches from last night and this morning, a bunch of them fresh from the scanner and a painted one, actually I like the fairy thingy with the motor part and the second one also has some volumes inviting to paint over, lets see what I can do with them on photoshop

Camara

Buen trabajo!!

March 19th, 2008, 03:55 PM
awesome stuff man, especially the armored girl in the flooded corridor..was that on a green toned paper? great use of color..

Flutic
March 19th, 2008, 03:56 PM
Great, stuff love the sense of color and light in your studies,
the portrait stuff is also nice!

Greets,Tom

Cirrus
March 19th, 2008, 06:51 PM
Camara: ei gracias =D, si la de la chica es la que he podido acabar mas, aun quiero tocar un par de cosas por eso creo que los bordes de las formas podrian estar mas depurados entre otras cosas

rlamunyon: yeah I like that one also, I think it has potential to go on a more finished state, actually it was a pencil draw over a "white" paper, I just added a multiply layer on photoshop with that green color and then worked some more stuff over, I always start to paint over a non-white color it feels more comfortable like if you had a background already
Flutic: thanks man, about light and color im learning a lot by just copying photos and lately I use the photoshop's Tone/Saturation tool sometimes it shows color combinations I would have never thought of so its becoming quite interesting for me also the other tool for Color balance (excuse me if im puting wrong names for those tools since the Photoshop version I use = spanish language)

I wanna give color to this pencil sketch, probably tomorrow (gotta work more and be less lazy):

Cirrus
March 20th, 2008, 02:18 PM
some update before going to work =D

first I started to color that pencil sketch I uploaded before, just a simple color sketch trying diferent approaches to coloring pencil works, tho it looks like coloring pencil stuff its hard, if you try to keep the line then weird stuff happens with the lighting
the other two images are from something I was asked to do in low resolution (some kind of futuristic rpg caracther) those images are in their real size
clean background (tho I should clean the antialaising around) was required and not too much color crazyness, well think ill depurate em a bit more specially that gun shes holding

TheDirtSyndicate
March 20th, 2008, 02:23 PM
dude, take that "girl sinking into the bed" drawing and make it a finished piece. its fucking sick.

fragmentedchimp
March 20th, 2008, 03:02 PM
Very wicked, i agree with everything they've just said, awesome stuff. Very designer, and its obvious your finished feel is really purrrdy looking, sos more of that! :sungod:

great book start, :D

complete2: yes, that piece has potential, I wanna fix a couple of things on the composition but the colors and the concept are cool imo, I gotta finish a couple of works before then ill probably give it some love
fragmentedchimp: thanks for the kind words =) really appreciated
Reject-D: thanks man, ofc course ill try to give some advices as far as my knowledge allows me to, hope I can be of some help

some sketches, medusa and the goblin mechanic

Cirrus
March 21st, 2008, 06:44 AM
did a bit more of work on this sketch, changed colors and such and I tried some special brush (special for me at least, I only use the round one :( )

I start to like how it looks tho I would like it to have more potency on the strokes, guess after I have the lighting a bit more settled I should try to texturize the stones and the cloak? oh yeah and that light on the leg, its taking too much atention I just noticed :\ ill have to take it out

rlamunyon
March 21st, 2008, 01:44 PM
i kinda like the light on the leg, it wouldnt be distracting if the light was consistent through the whole figure...coming along though :)

Cirrus
March 22nd, 2008, 01:21 PM
update time

rlamunyon: yeah I think you are right there, atm im a bit stucked (spelling) with that picture cause I really like the composition and the feeling of the picture but the colors and the forms are somehow dull, looks too soft I dont know, I wanna give it some days break but with your comment im starting to think perhaps what fails is the potency on the lighting

This 2 red riding hood sketches, the pencil work is not mine, its from a hip-hop artist from Barcelona named Hemp - elh3mp, I asked him if I could color one of his girls and he gave me this awesome pencil sketch, atm im setting up the lighting and trying to figure how to paint it so it looks cool and also keeps the style of the original

the next 3 landscapes is something I've been doing this morning, sketches from some random photos (dunno the name of the photograph, wasnt specified so cant give credit, anyway this are only studies not meant to be published)
trying to speed up with painting and trying to learn about light and color also trying new brushes, and actually I feel like im learning a lot, I should try to do at least 3 or 4 of this everyday, im not really fast atm but guess I will be getting better with time (I think its about 40-50 mins each sketch)

Cirrus
March 22nd, 2008, 01:36 PM

one thingy about sleepwalking and the last pic, the girl fighting those orcs is actually an old ilustration I had around my HDD and I felt it was cool to place it up as comparison

aussiedeza: thanks, yeah I gotta get back to my pencils been doing too much digital stuff lately, hopefully this week ill be able to upload some more pencil stuff, tho maybe if I dont have time maybe ill post something from a couple months ago

some more landscape studies, water is hard, I need to learn how to simplify it, gonna do some more beaches this days
an update on the red riding hood that is going now on the direction I wanted tho still with some problems and a portrait of Capaz (a rap singer from Malaga)

StolenSky
March 24th, 2008, 05:13 PM
You have a lovely sketchbook, so vibrant! I was really drawn to your illsutration of the woman fighting the orks. The red riding hood is looking great. :)

Icedearth15876
March 24th, 2008, 05:57 PM
Very nice drawings, only flaw i seen was in the 20th post in the second to last drawing, the bottom of the leg is weirdly curved.

Cirrus
March 25th, 2008, 06:51 PM
updating

Stolensky: thanks man =D, glad that you like that stuff
the girl with the orcs is pretty old but looks like it still works, I might remake it someday

Icedearth15876: You are right there, thanks for pointing it out, actually the leg looks like it was somekind of hoof or something, if I ever retake that sketch ill have to rethink the anathomy of the legs

some stuff from today

one portrait im doing, I wanna keep those soft tones, but still gotta think how to solve the difference between almost white skin and almost white dress
332648

another paint from ref, cant find an efective way to simplify the shapes of the face, gotta keep trying, actually gonna look the forum pay full atention to how people does to sketch faces

Those photostudies are sweet man! Great way to learn environments, colour theory and all that. You got some nice work but all the digital stuff lack a few more dark tones to really help them pop. As for simplifying the faces think of the main planes you see when you look at a face and block them in first before smoothing them out. Also really spend a lot of time on the eyes its where humans naturally go back to on a character so you gotta have me perfect.

Keep it up man!

Spirit
March 25th, 2008, 07:40 PM
Wow, i really love your enviroment work! Also really like the portrain you are doing, and maybe adding very sofy yellows into the dress will make it look different to the skin? I'm not sure how it works with digital paintings, but it works with watercolours ;)

Cirrus
March 26th, 2008, 03:10 AM
woke up a bit too early today

Miles_: Thanks man, about contrast ye, I think you are right almost always I work with tones near white/max saturation but almost never with tones near black, gotta think about and yeah about faces just gotta keep doing portrait till I have the shapes and planes clear

Spirit: cheers, indeed yellows might be a solution, was thinking about blues but that would make it too cold

Hey there. Just found your book. Glad I did too.

Very nice traditional looking painting of the girl with the camera. I really like your Sci-Fi concepts - like the girl with the alien gun in post #2 and the girl with the gun in the tunnel from post #8.

Cirrus

been on a trip, so didnt upload (not even paint or draw) anything this last 10 days, but well im back on business ;)

Peggo: Thanks man, glad that you like it =D
Crazy3dman: Thanks, yeah that Sci-Fi stuff I would like to do more like that but somehow lately it dosnt come easy to imagine that kind of stuff, maybe I should read / see more Sci-Fi related stuff to get some inspiration

some dancer sketchie
342082

finally finished this red riding hood thingy, pretty happy about the colors, tho I should work a bit more on some edges, as a reminder the line work here is not mine, credit to Hemp which gave me the drawing to color

Cirrus
April 8th, 2008, 03:58 AM
Matthew Forte: glad that you like the stuff =), indeed I try to do something diferent/special for every sketch/image, im happy to see that sometimes I do achieve it :D

some banner I did, pencil + photoshop coloring
342354

semi-refed landscape, has about 2-3 hours of work atm, I should start clearing edges now but would like to fix some colors and push those buildings on the background much more... to the background, would like to gain a lot more of deepness on the image
342356

was revisiting this, I abandoned it some weeks ago, if I get to fix the face and figure how to solve the background maybe it could look pretty okey, my idea of the image was something to serve like some movie poster ala star wars old posters
342357

Hey there!
Nice stuff in here - you seem to have a good grasp on the human figure, and your line quality is good as well.
Only your colored pieces seem to be a little dirty here and there.
Keep it going!

Cheers!

Cirrus
April 10th, 2008, 03:30 PM
Helioth: thanks man, glad that you like my stuff
Pascallo: Indeed, I always feel a bit lost when I try to step from the sketch to a finished status, ye my color sketches are sometimes too dirty, but I think it is just cause I need to learn more to simply light and solve planes with the brushes

some update now, all from photoref, would like to post more stuff from my imagination but lately I feel I need to keep doing this photo studies cause of the knowledge I get

landscape, need to polish the stone texture thingy, reminds me I need to download/create some new brushes
344395

this one is going pretty good imo, tho the background color is quite dull
but I like the anathomy, colors, brush strokes, got some problems with one of the legs but we'll see if I keep working on it
344397

this was aswell going pretty good, sketches the body and everything then went to render the face but I dont like the result, it dosnt look natural, and I think its becuase of the eyes
344398

this was the last one today, I like it actually, maybe ill finish it cause the light its interesting and what not

silvestri99: thanks man, I also like those, actually I only do pics from photoref to learn more about light and color but I think my "style" lays on those light colored sketches since the linework remains almost untouched
