I drew this in germany (Bonn) at my bro's wedding dinner. Yes it's the common stiff frontal pose, it's more of an armour design I guess. It often ends up that way. I shrunk the head 5% in PS as I always draw it too large.

Edit: color wip. Chubby face.

I forgot the camera when we were visiting the cool wineyards, 10th century ruins and stuff. But I got some plane pics, although the plane windows were dirty. 15km up or so.

Thanx for sharin' Prom, yea the face is a little chubby..but it only sticks out 'cause you mentioned it :D
nice tastefull use of the doge/burn as well,
do you usually work under a multiplied layer of your linework, then go and fill highlights over it??

I use one layer and the normal brush most of the time. If I use another layer it's because I want to try something experimental that takes a while to paint up, or because I color some comic lineart and thus need the multiply mode.
When I use special brush modes like multiply, saturation or dodge I do so to adjust Hue, Saturation or Value. I don't actually paint in those modes.

do you know of a brush in painter 8 that has the same pressure reaction like that brush?.. I see it used a lot, acheiving different opasities
(kinda similar to the brush in open-canvas).. but there doesn't seem to be a similar brush in painter..

More about the brushes:
I use the paintbrush with the following settings:
Normal
opacity 60-70
Fade [0] steps (dunno what this setting is, I have to try it.)
[ ]Wet edges (unchecked, dunno what this is either.)
Fade to: Transparent (Greyed, again a questionmark.)
Stylus: [v] Size [ ] Opacity [ ] Color
Note that I don't use the opacity (no apparent reason why).
I only use the brush modes with the airbrush, large size too.
I haven't used painter 8 (trial) much so I cant answer any questions about it.
Edit:
I just tried the other settings. Wet edges make the edges sharper. Fade is useless, so is opacity and color I think. I would need another dimension of pressure sensitivity to make use of the opacity. It would be great it it was dependant on the tilt of the pen or something.

WOW!
Nice one Prom!
-just out of curiousity, is that brush setting a PS setting, yes? It would be cool to see you save a custom brush to load into ps, the Prom-PS pack :D
love the glinting parts on the armor and the girls hair.

Thanks for the comment and stuff.
Koro> I've made a brush FAQ for my site but failed to make it public. I pretty much use the basic brushes cuz it's all I have and I sorta got used to it. The only custom brushes I have are some ink splatters I made, but PS5.5 is very limited so I don't use them for much.
Land> Sure, if you like. It's cool to see what radical changes other artists have in mind. I'm not sure if I'm gonna work more on it myself. I'm far to unfocused to actually finish paintings. It needs the usual cleaning up and balancing here and there. When the rest of the armour is rendered some highlighs, contrast and saturations will need to be silenced in order to make it work as a whole. It's so easy to get excited with the highlight rendering...

I see you fixed the eyes. I'm ass with eyes. Doing 20 color studies would be enough but I'm too lazy.
You also made the face more ..rhomb shaped. My hair shape was certainly too wide and round.
I'd probably go somewhere between your version and mine though. The jawline is a matter of preference?
The head needs to be smaller, that would fix the arm length. The wrist should end at croth level.

I don't know what to think of this one.

Hey Prom-
The girl is real nice, but I'm with LM in that I think the arms are a bit short. Just a little though - her face is a little stylized too (obviously) but I think it works. As for the armor, I can't say shit cuz I have no idea how to do that. I say keep going and articulate the shadowed parts more.
What I really like are the faint purple tinges at the edge of the reflections... almost wrote that one down.
About the second one - it's wicked. I'm really feelin' the simple design and I like his gross green flesh. But - two things - fix his damn feet! I want to see what they look like :D And, as I was ADMIRING his shoulder guns, I realized the right one (his left) is too far forward. Only reason I noticed is cuz I really dig how the other is back behind his head.
Good stuff, as usual :p
