45 mins in Photoshop.
I was gonna put more zombies in the background of the assembly line but it started to get confusing so left a single zombie to focus on.
I might actually do something with this sketch at a later date as I love the topic :)

Dead man, revived, attached sharp fingers. Robot heart. 50% Human body. 46.523% Human brain.

The detail difference between the background, and the robozombie makes me laugh a little inside.... Just lazy.
Took about an hour.

"They neglected to tell us the long term effects of the implants they had in mind; that they would run our bodies long after they had ceased to function..."
Don't know if I'll have time to participate this time, but ... this idea is so friggen' cool.
Vanvalen - The mood is nice; the assembly line brings shivers to me bones...!
Goran - Can't exactly make out whats going on, but that's part of the mystery. Looks nice with this prompt.

Right so I'm not sure how long you should spend on a sketch, so I'm gonna post it now and continue on with it later cos this topic kicks arse! lol
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g254/Loaded_Design/DSG/DSG.jpg
Crits!
Vanvalen - Love it!
Goren, Also kick arse but I'd love yo see more defining detail on the cyber part of it. The whole silhouette conveys the zombie this beautifully.
Zonezero, took me a second glance to see the chain saw part, but i like the idea! Not sure on the flick back hand part and I think the zombie part could of been conveyed a bit more.
Mr.Dabit, I can see you idea but I think that maybe staring loosely in a traditional medium might help correct the basic mistakes in you piece like perspective and anatomy. I almost always paper skecth my stuff out cos I find that I make a lot of stupid mistakes going straight to the comp. Give it a shot for the next one! :)
Burrito; Sorry dude this just reminds me of Solid snake for metal gear solid(?) too much, pose and design. Done well but not feeling it.
TSUJNI; I really like the movement in your strokes and I dig the direction but I think its needs, I donno, maybe 30mins to half hour more?
Gildorek. Its a cool idea, but I'm feeling like hes an old man rather then a zombie... I think the body is too plump With just wrinkles on the face or if you want it muscular, I think you need to manky the flesh up. if that makes any sense! lol
T_Marasa; dude love it, tho I reckon more 'Bot bits! :)
Hamstar; Your work is normally alot better and I think its cos this subject kinda requires a lot of 'detailing' to work and your style is quite loose and rough. Don't take that the wrong way I just think to would with your style a closer up shot would of worked better and felt the subject matter.
Oofinish HAHA Scweet Idea man!
Me; MORE TIME! lol. I like it so far. Certainly not a stand a lone piece as the composition is bland but good practice and fun! lol OH yeah and I need to add some color variations to the skin etc but that is coming.
I'd love some crits on mine if you can spare the time! :)

Dam Sorry tommy, yours dropped up after I posted! :P
Looking sweet as though perhaps a bit to skeletal and not enough bot bits! :)
Of course All my crits are opinions so take em lightly! Its looking like a kick arse round so far guys!

Okay so first time submitting here, so hello and please give me critiques they always help. Zombies are scary because they grab you, and bite you, so I made the arms longer and the mouth nastier and I gave the zombie it a gun because usually you fight zombies with a gun so they can't reach you and it just sucks when they shoot back.
Time: 20 min on the sketch and about 30 min coloring in PS.

Ok. its a bit late in the day, but hey - its still today somewhere in the world.
Im having trouble starting out with good contrasts. I end up using photoshop at the end to get the highlights and shadows where I want them - any advice on how to get out of the 'overcast coloring' mindset?
Im having trouble grasping the dynamic I want.
Look, their fingers glow, like ET! ha

Dead Clown I think it's one of my more interesting attempts. No worries though, it's a matter of taste.
Would you like to borrow some of my looseness? I think you went a little overboard with the detailing on this one ;)
The mechanical parts look pasted on, as if each "bit" has it's own light source, without any ambient light.
The Swiss army hand is a fun idea, but gets lost in the crowd.
The torso ends too abruptly and gives an uneasy feeling

March 17th, 2008, 06:41 PM
Hamsta I kinda like your loose broad strokes, I guess just expected to see something in that vain. Its not bad, just different? Yeah I'm not making much sense! lol
Yeah I seriously need a dose of looseness. :P I'm just using the DSG to kinda of find my niche and find the best way to turn my line work into an image. So I'm trying to experiment with different techniques, some more successfully then others! lol. I really got lost in the detail on this, but I was kinda thinking of continuing it, so not time wasted I guess.
The mechanical stuff I quickly blocked in so it had some form before posting. But I never noticed how fubar his right arm was till you mentioned it! The lighting it all over the shop. Rushed it I guess. I'm thinking of darkening the bottom of the torso off or cropping it. Not sure yet. Doesn't matter much its just a bit o fun ;)
Why is no one criting each other? Help your fellow artists out! :)
