Rosemary's Baby may soon get an evil twin. Paramount has partnered with Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes to develop a remake of Roman Polanski's 1968 classic, about a young woman unwittingly impregnated with the devil's child. The original, of course, starred Mia Farrow and won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Ruth Gordon. Although Polanski doesn't have any contractual control over a new version, Paramount has reached out to the director for his blessing, according to a studio insider. (It hasn't been resolved whether Polanski would retain any official credit on the film, but he will most likely not be creatively involved.) "We certainly come to [the project] with trepidation because of how important [the original] film is," says Dunes partner Brad Fuller. "But we're going to see if there's a great way to tell that story." To that end, Fuller and co-partner Andrew Form are currently taking pitches from screenwriters around town. Adam Fields (Donnie Darko) is also producing. Fuller doesn’t expect that Bay, currently set to helm Transformers 2 for summer 2009, will direct this Baby.

Well, that blows. They're already remaking Suspiria...and I didn't think that movie was on anyone's radar.

Hmm, I wonder how Bay will fit in a high-speed explosive car chase, and numerous other big explosive effects. Or maybe he'll "modernise" it for the 21st Century ;)

PatriciaS, how about we just kill Michael Bay, I believe the world would be a much better place without him, can anyone think of anything of value that he has done, that could not have been done by anyone else.
His main contribution to film is the slo mo frontal shot of cars and trucks shimmering in the sun.... its almost like auto-porn... the guy clearly has a fetish for cars and trucks...

Awright, you're right. I was in a moment of extreme duress upon reading this "news". Very despondent.
I will say this: I like "The Rock". That was a fun flick. But that was it. That's all I'll give to him in terms of a compliment.

michael bay is Rosemarie's baby. its autobiographical
he's is the best argument for dvd piracy , sure the bootleg will have the liner notes to "Angels in the Outfield" and credit bruce willis.... but at $3.25 and including original authoring, the special features, and of course FBI warning:) even, gasp, the commentary....
if only to see how he'll manage to insert the shots of apache helicopters and stock airforce recruitment footage, silhouetted against a setting sun...in this version ...perhaps thats the very challenge that drew him to the project.
or maybe just a break, to collect more stock footage of jets being waved off of flight decks.

Here is the "official" plot
"After going to an underground evil organization, our main character comes out with a clone of an evil demon impregnated inside of her. Now she must not only face the devil baby herself, but futuristic helicopters, high speed chases, and the evil organization itself from the inside out."
Oh wow this sounds like oodles of fun!

I hate Michael Bay. I dont need to explain it because i'm sure everyone out there who agrees with me already knows why, and the people who dont agree with me need to learn why his stuff is horrible. I'm not going to explain it to the idiots.

Michael Bay is Uwe Boll with a higher budget. He can cover up his crappy movies by patching it with special effects so the audience with less attention spans don't realize the mistakes. Uwe Boll does it by relying on people who want to see it because it's like watching a train wreck, and that's mainly because the audience is curious why he gets well known actors for his movies.

b movies should have crappy special effects and revel in their crappiness campiness this is what makes them entertaining....
saw New Zeland flick Black Sheep and it was so bad it was brilliant
someone needs to seriously cut Michael Bays budgets and tell him to give into the campiness of his films, I mean transformers almost did at some points. Can you imagine if they used the same effects for the robots that they used for the power rangers... transformers would become a b movie classic

I can't wait to see how Michael Bay incorporates advertising into this one. Maybe when Rosemarys baby finally comes out it will be a can of mountain dew.

Wasnt he involved in the amytiville horror remake? :nohope: ohh lawd
Even without him, still i think is kinda pointless to remake rosemary´s baby, whats the excuse? its not like the original needs any cg or modern effects added.

The reason i liked the remake is because ryan reynolds was in it. I think he's awesome as an actor. His personality is cool as an actor. He may not fit all the roles though.

He also plans on remaking 'The Exorcist.'
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/080401b.php
Platinum Dunes is continuing its bid to remake the major horror film masterpieces from 1960's to 80's with Screen Annual reporting that Michael Bay's company is seeking a screen writer for a new adaption of William Peter Blatty's "The Exorcist".
Along with the already announced plans to remake "Friday the 13th," "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "The Birds" and most recently "Rosemary's Baby", the move doesn't really come as a surprise.
One of the names being floated for the director's chair however does - the Strause Brothers ("Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem"). The duo apparently floated the idea to Bay who immediately took to their grittier and more visceral take on the original story.
Bay then apparently pitched the idea to franchise holders Warner Bros. who gave Dunes the greenlight last week. The Strause's are set to produce the film and are expected to direct, but nothing has been signed as yet. Production isn't slated to begin until next year, with casting to begin later in the year.

the end is nigh.....
why do we need a remake to classic films
is Hollywood so devoid of any ideas that even smell of originality?????
and why is Michael Bay let anywhere near a film set....?
all we need know is for Michael Bay to direct the remake of Casablanca with Madonna.... then we have a reason to burn every mainstream cinema theatre to the ground.

Dear god, no! There needs to be a petition. And if that doesn't work, pitch forks and torches.
The Excorcist is perfection in filming. It wouldn't matter who remade it it would never come near the original.

How about instead of remaking movies that are classics and should be left alone Hollywood remakes a crappy movie that had the potential to be great?
Not a movie that is already great on it's own and make it crap?

Get THIS! how about we just make new and original films.

yes I can imagine someone going to a mainstream studio with an original idea
they praise it to high heavens then realise it a huge gamble financially so they decide to make it more user friendly based on demographics and focus meeting thus underestimating the intelligence of their audience
they also remove the character back story because it slows down the action,
remove the crucial but subtle subplot because it may confuse the audience
that now leaves plot loop holes that are botch covered
add a sex scene because that is what the target audience want
add an action scene because that is what the target audience want
add a happy tacted on ending because that is what the target audience want and they are unable to handle real emotion or be challenged by an open ended film...
and volia it makes loads of money is bankrupt of any artistic merit...
or maybe I am just cynical
