Ok, i study animation in Florence Italy, from the september 2007 I have bought mine wacom and I have begun to interest me to the digital art, are self-taught and the fact to be italian boy with a insufficient acquaintance of English does not help me, place some jobs, I very well know that my level are low above all with color values and tone of color, I ask to you for being patients, I am engaging myself to full time but the things to learn are really many and sometimes creed not to make it, every critic us or compliment are truly very important and perhaps they will help me to go ahead

waw, i see a lot of things that i like here. that bird is so cool. I like the 5th thumbnail in post #20 and the 2nd one in post #21. your environments look so great. and your torso study looks nice except that the left chest looks flat and TheGnoll is right you kinda oversmudged it, you could try rendering it instead of smudging, XD

Your referenced work is really stunning man, the detail on the first one is mindblowing. Your environments are way ahead of your figure work at the moment. You might wanna consider buying some anatomy books such as
Hogarths dynamic anatomy - By Burne Hogarth
Figure drawing for all its worth - By Andrew Loomis
any bridgeman books, I've heard good things about them.
Keep it up you'll progress quickly :D.

Yo EKOes! Here are those examples I talked about in the PM. I'll just put in links so I don't take over your thread.
The goal is to Focus on proportions on the first step. If you get those down good, blocking in the values is easy. It also helps to have the layers arranged by darkness (for example, the black layer is on top of the dark grey layer, which is is on top of the light grey layer.)
This is just a really quick example, so it's a little messy.
STEP 1 (http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3415/step1cw9.jpg)
STEP 2 (http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/750/step2wm9.jpg)
STEP 3 (http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/7457/step3kc6.jpg)
STEP 4 (http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/9862/step4px7.jpg)
Example refs- 1 (http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/5247/monochromeportrait), 2 (http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7053/08yw3.jpg), 3 (http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9089/05zk0.jpg).

I really enjoy your digitals.
Keep doing the studies, from both ref and life!
Though a suggestion, which I myself got... Do more studies on entire bodies, not just torsos and faces. It's harder, and more challenging, but totally worth the effort.

Dang, you keep busy around here. Those animal studies are great!
Good job on the first assignment! It looks like you got the basic idea. There are only a few thing I can see to improve on. First off, the cheek area should be a little smoother. That line of light grey that that runs down it looks odd. Also, and this may be preference, but I would lighten the line going from the corner of her nose down to the corner of her mouth. Something like that is generally fine, but if your painting women's faces, hard lines like that seem to add age or hardness to the face, even if it doesn't seem that way in a photograph.
I'll have a new assignment tomorrow on perspective. Keep up the hard work in the meantime!

Nice work, especially on the photo reference study.
Pay attention on the volumes when draw (like te good noses sketches)
do not ad details or hatching before you aren't sure to hit the 3d structure of the subject.
Look the seated clapping skeleton, is the best, it's 3d!

why isn't anybody replying at this thing?!
you're doing GREAT man, the studies are getting better and better and it looks like you have the willpower and skills you need to improve really quicky,
If i were you i would try and push forward both referenced studies AND imagination drawing where you apply what you have learned, as i told you on msn.
But again, i really envy people like you that have the patience and right midset to actually do this kind of study, and show this much dedication :)
keep sharing man, keep sharing, and have some stars :)

Great studies and paintings, and your environments are beautiful! Great stuff. My only recommendation would be to use some brighter colors in some of your paintings, something that would really bring out a portion of the face or landscape that you would like to emphasize.

You're working like a demon, obviously. These are building into a great body of stuff, particularly the Whittaker pic. Your colour use always seems a little high-key in the landscapes - as in, not quite natural - but it works with the palette you use. I like 'em anyways. You *could* try and mute your palette to more earthy stuff, but you don't need to bother.
Great work!

That portrait looks pretty good! I like the nose and mouth area, and the colors look good.
There may be a little too much brightness on the forehead and cheek bone, which is emphasized by the darkness of the hair and the left side of the painting. I would also consider giving just a bit of those warm tones to the shirt, to make it more part of the painting.

hey man
i like the fact i now see a lot more imagination sketches side by side with your studies, it was about time you put what you learned in practice :)
about the croc, it ended up pretty well.I'm stil not convinced of the feet, they should be a bit bigger, and need to be a bit more detailed (put some fingers on them, or maybe claws, or even cowboy boots hehe) I'd also lower his belt down to his waist line, n maybe add a gilet or whatever.(and you might wanna staighter up that background line, make it horizontal)
would be cool to see this one in color, magari lasciagli anche la barbetta incolta grigio bluastra hehe

I have to say, your work is really, really coming along. I love the skin tones and features in post #137 and also the Bobby Chiu work is really sweet too! Some of these animals are fantastic...consider doing some skeleton studies of both human and animal anatomy, knowing bone structure can really help you a lot in making your figures look more realistic...otherwise, the painting is looking good and keep doing what you're doing. Just keep posting more frequently! :D Great work...
One last thing! The background thumbnails are AWESOME. Now try doing some in tone rather than line. It's easier to create the illusion of depth if you have the varying shades from the foreground to the background.

Great rendering! Flesh tones rae really getting there. Try to use more of the sharp contrast you have going on the shoulder to make other forms pop further. As far as form and structure, just those two folds or creases on the should work amazingly. It's almost just having them there that leaves you with something else to be desired from the rest of the painting. It's just that you did those SO WELL that I just want to see more of it everywhere else! Haha!
The facial features are nice, but watch the alignment of the nose with the eyes, as well as the size of the lips. The lower portion of the face seems be squeezed and slightly stretched simultaneously.
Keep at it, I know you're pushing yourself because I see gargantuan leaps even from the last portrait you did. Kudos to you for doing complete works! In closing, draw more! :D

Great colors! heads up on the nose though, it seems to be on the same plane as her upper lip, and something with the nostrils are messed
her left eyebrow should cast a larger shadow, the way you drew it it recedes around the left eye rather than covering it, just some small things that you might want to look at if it isn't already finished
It looks nice though and the atmosphere is really neat so keep it up and stop by sometime when you get the chance:)

really liked the studies in post 230, nice stuff, nice contrast.Cute steampnk characters, only suggestion would be to leave all the presentation bits (image adjustments, toned paper effect etc) only as a last step, and maybe try and push even more the picture before calling it done.Yo characters could also use a bit more research and tought in the concept phase, especcially when you have a clearly defined "theme" as steampunk.check out how steam-powered stuff works, what steampowered stuff looks like, the what the real clothing looked like etc.More tought and research in the thinking stage can mae a design more interesting imho. )i was reffering especcially to the steampunk girl with umbrella).
Keep doing what you're doing, if this wasn't clear ask me on msn when you catch me online :)
ciao!
EDIT:fuck, looks like i've missed a damn page.I guess it still makes sense, but i have t add i like the robot (but things i said bout the girl apply to him too, even if he's stilized).Very nice enviroments ;)

Chiao caro Ekoes, it's a pity that so little people comment on your SB lately, because that means that they are losing a lot. Great robot designs. My favorite stuff are those cartoon portraits of that sort of wicked family. Those are really great. Also, I like the vectorized robot quite a lot. I've never heard of that program that you used; I'll probably check it out.
The thing I like the less is the painted landscapes, it's weird because they seem very well done, but there's something that I can't say about them that I dislike. Perhaps is because of the colors, as they may be over saturated, or perhaps it's about the borders, that seem like way to sharp or something.
Anyway, this last days have been great for your production, there are lots of gems around here.
If you came around to the forum again and you read this, post something, to show what stuff are you doing at in this new year.
