I kept trying to do these big, epic detailed things and getting majorly frustrated - and giving up on them.
I just got a teeny(4x6) sketchbook, so I can play with the details in a part without getting overwhelmed.
Any other tips for a frustrated beginner?

Post some of these epic things you have been frustrated by and maybe we can help - you are only going to get generalities or 'tips' without being a little more specific.

Show some images? Maybe we can help guide you but the general rule with those things is general to specific...

Will do. I've been away at work, not having much free time. Many thanks.

Too be honest - with the exception of work and a handful of personal pieces I have never done anything grandiose or epic. What I do is very rarely for the final product or to show, it is to learn and experiment. I'll leave the epics for when I know what I am doing :)
