Hello. I was wondering what sort of experience anyone may be having with AAU online BFA Illustration. I wont get into all the details of why I need to do this online, or, if it's the right thing to do. However, I do have an AAS to transfer in the liberal arts and self discipline to put in the necessary effort to have a rock solid portfolio.

Before the Academy of Art University gets any $ from me I want to know if any current or former students feel that the instructors do actually care about your progress and aren't just going through the process? Also, what kind of class load do you have and if you are working full time as well?

My other option would be a BFA in Drawing/Painting from the University of Washington, not exactly the education I want and in order to do that I would have to take a 20% pay cut to have the daytime hours to attend class, which in the end over 3-4 years is more than cost of going to AAU online.

This is my first semester at AAU and I'm taking the studio classes onsite, while taking one liberal arts class online.

From my experience considering the atmosphere and the construction of the online classes, I would never want to take any of the studio classes online. It really helps to be onsite and watch the teacher do his/her demo and be able to ask the teacher immediately for help if a problem arises.

In my liberal arts class, it is normal having to wait up to 24 (sometimes 36 hours on weekends) for a response.

So that's my advice anyway. I hate liberal arts classes so it suits me to take them online, but as for the studio classes, I'd advise you to take them onsite.

Well, not everyone can. I have a wife, 2 kids and a house. So my only option is online or something else entirely. I already have my AAS so I would only need the art history courses outside of the core courses.

What I'm most likely going to do is to create my own program utilizing curriculum from various BFA Illustration programs, DVD's, this forum, cgtalk and deviantart. This will save me $60k, and, I can focus on exactly what I want. The downside is I need some extreme dedication to see this through, which I'm working on at the moment.
