Hi guys, I saw that most guys who do concepts and designs have a degree in illustration or fine art and some learn without education. I was wondering if you think doing animation would be a mistake if I want to try out those fields ? The reason I want to go to animation is that I love the movie industry so much as well that I like the game industry too. I love costume designs I love creating characters, doing crazy posing, crazy anatomy. characters with great colours etc. And I like to draw the same character a lot of time. And I like details a lot too. But to be a good concept artist you need to know colour theory well, know how to paint etc. I begun doing some ink and acrylic and like it. So Should I go to illustration or should I stay in animtion. I will take the course in sheridan. the thing is that its 4 years, it is important to know that in 4 year I will practice the skilss I need. and the rest I learn during the industry. As for animathing I think it is ok but what I like most is the shot and the posing the character.

If you definitely want to go to Sheridan, you will need to develop all the skills you will need for your particular interests by taking more than one course of study, and also take painting classes (high realist) outside of Sheridan.

You are looking at a minimum 5 to 6 years of study.

Another possibility is to choose one, probably illustration, and when you've completed it, look for other schools or courses that will fill in the skills you'll be missing. Concept Art for Animation requires 2D as well as 3D design, cartooning and cartoon style character design, etc. etc. An awareness of the demands of animation is helpful for any concept related career, so a year of animation, as well as storyboarding and layout are all very relevant. For the video game industry you also need a high level of proficiency doing representational painting.

I am actually in a 3d proggram that I am not sure of finishing and in witch I did learn some acrylic and ink painting too. So the thing is if I like animation I could indeed do it and the rest I can learn how to do myself. Before I go to animation or illustration I miss some credit so I will do a proggram either way in algonquin like illustration preanimation that consist on creating character and layout and model sheet etc .Cuz Honnestly I wont have an off money to study something else in college. I could only take some courses like 1 once a week in a school like that while working

I took the pre-animation program at Algonquin :). Rich Lauzon is a great teacher. you'll learn lots.

Yeah I saw there stuff there. Man but the only thing is that 3 or 4 years is a lot and I will need to learn the basic skills neceserry for a concepter and a designer as well as some possibility to do other things a little bit. But most of the time I see concepters and designers with degree in fine art, illustration, architecture but not in animation ^^

True. but becoming a good artist takes time :). The design course here is very animation centric of course. Designing animatable characters, BGs, pans, vehicle designs and so forth.
