This is Arial after her boyfriend left her for a younger woman/mermaid. She's sitting on a rock at the bottom of the ocean somewhere, plotting her revenge against her ex and his new lover.

hi, i like your monochromatic treatment to the painting. I get the impression of her being underwater, the eerie feel of evil works with the green.

you've got her proportions right.
she does look like a woman, so not much else to say in that department.

But I think she could use a little more color in some areas. maybe some purple for the hair and the tail. monochrome paintings are easy to attempt, but it doesn't always work. but i think you put to good use in this painting. I guess I could say that monochrome executes emotions/moods better than a wider range of colors.

keep it up.

hey thanks man, i really appreciate your sentiments.

Adding some purple in there is a good idea, i will try that out. There's some blues and yellows in there already so its more a subtle analogous color scheme than a straight monochromatic. But yeah I get what you mean, maybe it is a bit too green overall.

this is a Rembrandt study i did a few weeks ago, oil on canvas. It took about 8 hours to do.

Love the mermaid piece (I think the subdued palette works really well) and the Rembrandt(ish) study looks interesting too.

Keep up the good work.

pretty nice stuff so far. Liking the style of the mermaid-painting. Thought that it's painted traditionally at first sight.
techically-wise the last piece is great, though it would be nice if you might post your reference as well. IMO it looks a bit to smooth for rembrands portraits, though, as I already said, the painting itself is awesome!

Looking forward to the life-studies :D

Its with great sadness to announce that John Waterson (aka Blutack) has recently passed away.

He was a humble, open and a very genuine guy and one hell of a artist, he was a full time artist at Binary Star. I only knew him for a short time but he left a lasting impression on me.

You'll sorely be missed my friend, all my condolences to his family and friends.
