This was completely a digital work... mostly cuz I don't have a scanner right now... I'd really like to digitally paint my pencil drawings but digital drawing will have to suffice for now. C & C are more than welcome. The more feedback the better, good or bad... Hit me with it!

I think you're relying too much on hue contrast to define your forms. Switch this image to greyscale and see if you can still make out the important shapes.

I definately agree with bwkeough, but I would also like to add that for a piece like this reference is absolutely critical, not to mention historical accuracy. This samurai's helmet seems like a samuai's helmet. Very good there, but his sword seems almost European to me. I don't think I've ever seen a Japaneese sword that looks like that. If it was your intention to have this character carry weapons from different cultures that's cool. But if not then next time I would seriously advise doing some research on your subject. It never hurts anyways and you'll be glad you did in the end. Sometimes it even spawns new ideas! :)
Like I always say this is only one person's opinion, so take it for what it's worth.
keep up the great work man practice as much without line as you can. I know from experience that it's easier to have experience not using line then to become too dependant on lines.
great job.

thanks guys for the response.. I definately agree that I work with line too much it does seem to make things a little stiff. But as for references, the large sword that the samurai is carrying is called a naginata... i even referenced the side arm.
But thanks for the tips. I'm definately gonna continue to post.
