Straight from Blizzard press, some new artwork has been release that I can show. This artwork was finished about year ago, so a little time has passed.
Special thanks to Foster, Manely, Imphead, Cos, and Stalecracker for the inspiration.

Damn this is cool stuff. StarCraft is what got me into concept art, and now I feel the inspiration is revitalized through these new concepts. Thank you Bomba.

Not to sound contrary, but I'm just not overly-impressed. Every picture bothers me in some way. The Protoss's robe looks rushed, the ...er... devourer's/frost wyrm's wings look pretty bad, and there's just SOMETHING about the infested terran that doesn't sit well with me. Now I got it! His FEET! Hie's horribly balanced. But hell, they all have their good parts, too. Nice upper body on the 'toss, nice body on the zerg thingy, and nice claws on the terren.
So sorry to be overly critical, but hey,t hat's what we're here for, right?

I agree with Demintist, but these were done over a year ago and I can see (thru newer posts of your stuff) that you've improved 10 fold. So keep improving :)

Very nice :) I love any blizzard concept art.
the terran reminded me of this image (http://broodwar.ingame.de/fun/artwork/colored/infestprev.jpg) . (I think it was grey in the manual)
I like the protoss, especially his torso.

Bomba,
The company I work for almost did this title...and I probably would have ended up doing the concept art. Ironic!
You did a great job, but out of curiosity, since the franchise has already been set, how much freedom did you have with it?
Once again good job...I'm sure Blizzard was happy!

Wow....thanks for all the replies.
otis--> No way!!! That is too crazy.
I would say 'In General' working with any established franchise, there are tons of limitations.
Loga4---> I dig the Protoss too.
Red_Rook---> That was the reference I had to use in order to draw that character.
Sammy--->Thanks for that comment. Actually, I just looked at the dates on the originals that I drew.... they were done 2 years ago. It's pretty amazing how fast pre-production goes by. And I am glad to hear that my skills have improved since then:)
Dementist--->Appreciate the feedback.
endregan--->Thanks.
Here are 2 other pieces that were done.

wow :) , I really like the bottom 2 one (the dark templar guy rocks). This may sound like a really retarded question, but whats the bottom most drawing, is that a female protoss or somthing?

Luke Mrozek--->WarCraft is definitely cool too. It would be great to work on that project as well.
synthetINK---> Thanks alot!
Red_Rook---> It's a female...but I cannot reveal any more than that.

Good stuff man, did you work on the warcraft as well? I bought the game just for the animated films within it, lol havent even played the game yet but those animations are sick.

The update is so cool man. Its interesting how you keep the original sort of feel and aura to the units from StarCraft, but revitalize it and give it a more revamped appeal. Nice work.

WildSpruceMoose--->Great to hear!!! It was definitely a challenge to work on something so established. For every 1 drawing accepted, I have another 20 that were denied.
TARGETE---> I respect your work, thanks so much for the message. WarCraft would be fun to work on. To answer your question, no. But would like to. I hear you about the animations. If you are an older gamer like myself, WarCraft animations reminds me of Bard's Tale animations. Always got these really nice designed characters/monster animated super cool.
Titan--->Yes, I designed/revamped most the characters and creatures in SC:G. Except for Nova and Hauler(the main characters). They were designed by a number of different artists. A collective effort.

Hey man I have a question about your work flow at blizzard...
I just finished my first REAL contract job in the game industry for EPIC's next major release, some 20 or so characters.....I learned alot and managed to produce some great stuff(for me) as time went on...I was drawing everyday and that alone will make you better...
ok so heres my question....
what is the process for creating a new character at blizzard, from start to finish...
for me...I would get handed a character or team description and was expected to generate 4 looser pencil or photoshop sketches for each character with sufficiet design differences between them to choose from...I would offer them up, take suggestions make changes and draw up a final design usually in a pose of somekind....after that I drew a front side and back for the model sheet and made a colored version as well....and that was handed off to the modeller...
Is your process similar, how much art is required for each character and how much time are you given to complete each one.....for that matter how much do you produce in an average day?
sorry I know thats more than 1 question....just trying to compare and contrast work flows in an effort to polish up my process a little and hopefully learn to be more productive.
any help, advice, or comments would be helpful

Titan--->Congrats on the job! Sounds like a good experience. I am really sorry to say, but I cannot say anything about how the work gets done here. Seriously.
But. To generalize, it's up to the place that you work for. If they need 20 designs per day. You produce 20 designs per day. They request polished rendered pieces for PR, you produce polished pieces. It's all about keeping good communications with your employer and seeing what they need. Go the extra mile sometimes and take the work home.
As long as your employer is happy with your work and you are improving... then you are doing things right.
