here's a good question: how much concept work is there in Europe, the UK etc? I know most games are made in the US but cossacks and sudden strike were cool - they were from Europe.

Theres a lot of work if you have the skills and your portfolio shows it, after all, Europe is kinda big... There is also a relatively new scene in eastern Europe that for the last five years or so, has produced great computer games, the first one to come to mind is Hidden & dangerous. Dont know much about the UK though.
I believe that if you have a strong portfolio and youre not afraid to spam every company in Europe with it, youīre bound to get some work, somewhere.

I think itīs more competitive than the market in the US or Japan because we havenīt got as many companies around that have the need for Conceptart. I know just the scene here in Germany and the chances to get a job are quite few - especially when youīve got to compete against people like Marko or Robolus ;). If someone can prove me Iīm wrong I would be glad but In my experience there isnīt much need for this stuff.
You can prepare yourself for running around with your portfolio a lot ...
