i always figured games are for guys because they fiddle a joystick then press the button to fire the gun.

Actually, I really don't understand what your assignment is. Could you elaborate? The title "Game's are guys" doesn't make too much sense. What are both sides of this argument?

basically that all we were given for the presentation and the group decided to go down the line that games are created purely to entertain males. i although am a guy am tackling games like nintendogs (seems to be mainly marketed at girls), Barby games and other games that seem to be marketed at girls. another colleague will be tackling games like doom (seems to be mainly aimed at the male audience), another will be doing sports games.
hope that elaborated enough
thanks for reading

Women gamers outnumber men in the 25-34 age group. (http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/study-women-gamers-outnumber-men-in-25-34-age-group/68821/?biz=1) This shows that women will play games even if the marketing team forgets they exist. I used to play the game boy all the time, even though I felt weird using a machine that had the word boy on it.

The sims where really popular among some of the girls I knew. I'm an exception, I'm a girl and I always hated the sims. I've played a lot of games that are marketed towards guys though.

Women tend to feel guilty about spending time on themselves more than men. They can think they're supposed to spend their time helping other people or improving society. I suppose the game the sims gives people the change to imagine they're impacting the lives of the sims family, instead of killing a bunch of people like you would in most video games. Or maybe all those people I knew who loved to talk about the sims had a secret metal gear solid life. I don't know.

That was the only good part of the sims, just trapping the people into a rom and burning them, or drowning them.....but then again, I am a guy, so I guess its just the natural killing urge that we get? But then again, my girlfriend likes to play games where you do alot of killing, so I dunno. But nowadays, games are played by everyone, not just boys.

Video games are a story telling media just like TV or movies, or books. The difference is that you are more involved in the outcome. It is human stigma to say whom they are for. They play to a demographic sure, but there is no reason they cannot cover all folks. look at when atari first came out. It was a family affair, same with the original NES. Look at people playing Wii. All manner of folk are playing again because it is approachable.
