I've never posted here before, but I've followed this forum for a while. Honestly I'd not joined or posted because a lot of the stuff here makes my stuff look painfully amateurish.
But, here goes, anyway. I did two sketches. The first was kind of a cartoony, exaggerated thing. The second I went with a more organic look, and the thought I had was some giant crab monster's exoskeleton that was turned into a robot.
I hope posting two images is ok.

Funny theme on this one. The 1337 challenge better be "leet" so to speak. :)
I'm actually starting to think I'm slowly getting a hang of this wacom business, must practise more. Not good, but getting better. :)

I'll offer some crits, for what they're worth! lol
Mistwalker: I think the second has better feel and level of skill in it, although the perspective is off on the canopy on the top. A good start, a little time defining form with some solid shading would bring it up and define more form.
Jutami: I like it! nice colours, good idea, althought he perspective on the legs it a wee bit off, and it feels like its leaning or toppling backwards a bit. if you changed the angle on the last few legs to be leaning the opposit way through to vertical i think it would feel more stable.
Me: That whole drop down tail missile holder tail thing doesn't look like its sitting back far enough and the hole comp looks flat. Really the design was a decent idea, but lacked better excruciation. :P Like I said, I'll thumbnail the idea on paper first again...

Good start Mistwalker. I also think the form on the second one is further along than your first but the first has some nice movement going on in it.
Jutami - I really like the colors you used to render your bot with. Nicely developed form and lighting too.
Dead Clown - I like the eerie underwater atmosphere you've got going on in yours. Nice effect

Jutami: very nice, maybe the legs are a little stiff.
Dead Clown: good start, trying to create depth you could sharpen the drill and claw more.
Muleskinner: your loose technique makes it very recognizable, when laying the focus-point round the eye you could sharpen and highlight the space around it while blurring stuff further away from it.
Faust: i like the colors, cant read the legs to good though.
Ebrown: great concept, would like to see more of the critter.
AbiLity: Welcome, nice start, although it seems a bit flat.
Pandahunt: great admosphere, maybe it would be better if you cropped the pic getting rid of the space left and right. Also i think everything is a bit to centered.
Here's mine, the Iron Maiden idea is a little joke for the stagiaire;-)

Some nice sketches so far.
I did two sketches this week and couldn't decide which to go with so I ended up coloring both somewhat.

Syhn I love both the cool colors you used and the textures... really make the "robot" look old and battered!

Still a WIP. I need to throw some more mechanical looking bits on him and add the tazer between his claw tips.

Something of a comedic approach here. Imagine half of one of these in your apple! Painted with a hard-edged brush in photoshop. I played around with custom brushes to get the spots on the apple. Feedback MUCH appreciated
Jutami: Great job using those hard brushes to achieve the painting. You did well on shadowing, but I think the bot could use some more hard highlights to give it a shinier robotlike appearance.
pandahund: Wow. The light hitting the water is stunning. I love the scale factor here. Looks hopeless.
goran: I really like the texture on the ground and robot. Looks very conceptual and has a nice effect. The crosshairs are a good edition too.

Zakarra thank you ,actually the texture on the ground is close up of the tree trunk photo . Unpredictable are the ways of Photoshop.

jutami, absolutely fabulous mate, really like it. its awesome how you got the colours and shape of a crab thing but also made the robot look like it would have a practical use :D

Well, it took me a while, but I'm an amateur at using PS in this manor of shading and highlighting. I'm excited to see my picture coming to life right before my eyes! Does anyone have any advice on how I could improve my highlights and shading? Anything would be awesome :D
Still have a way to go.
