Hi there,
iīm francisco, and i have been lurking around this forum (and learning lots as well) for about 2 years, same time iīve gotten serious about drawing also, anyway got myself a scanner a few days ago, so now i have not excuse to post my very own SB. So here are some of my latest stuff. I know itīs lacking of some contrast and color, but iīm working on that and many other things that inspire me from this excellent learning paradise.

iīll try to post new stuff at least every 2 days. so hope you like it, and do please critic me all you can. I want to improve my style and learn learn learn.

ps. mentors are also wellcome ;)

Hi Francisco. Some nice stuff in there. I think something that might help your drawing is to leave in as many construction lines and 'under drawing' as possible for the time being. It feels like you need to get a little more solid on your underlying 3D form and it will probably help critiques to show the evolution of each drawing a little more. That make sense?

holas! congrats for starting a SB! it will help you a lot to improve,,, even if nobody post ŽŽ,,, (my own experience,,,) mmm just don't forget to draw and being constant,,, I like the couple of men playing chess the most,,, I think that your strong are drawings from reference, and your weaks are faces..heads, from mind. soo keep doing life studies (face and head) and then practice what you learned drawing from imagination :)

keep showing!
chauuu, saludos!

Hello,
and thanx for visiting my SB people.

vorp: I think i know what you mean. I do make a very few construction lines maybe because i am a bit of a perfectionist and donīt like it that much when my drawings look a bit messy or confusing because of them, on the other hand iīm also training myself into trying to visualize them, i read somewhere that is was a good training... canīt remember where and why unfortunately, think iīm getting old. Anyway next time i scan my sketches iīll adjust the levels and do them with 300dpi instead of 150 so you can see them better.

Clodioz Muy guenas! thanx for the motivation words :) I like that chess match as well, did it a few days ago here at home after a few wines... :vodkamachine: Youīre right i should do lot more life heads / portraits (some of my heads in the SB are also from life), a few weeks ago i was doing self portraits daily but after a while i got bored... think ill get back at it someday soon. I would ask my roommates but they never like to stay still that long.
---

Today iīve decide i was going to go back to do some anatomy, last time i did some head & neck anat. was quite a long time ago and a bit troublesome, but i really want to be able to do whole body and eventually do chars. from imagination so there is no escape i reckon.

so... to start here are some some upper arm bones studies with the help of this (http://www.visiblebody.com/start)lovely page, and some Anat. books like Bammes & E. Goldfinger. iīll try to put some muscles in there once i got the bones in my head.

then some life drawings from a few flat mates, and some other life d. from last summer i forgot to post yesterday.
hope you like them.

Interesting studies. Good start. I agree with Clodioz, keep doing studies from life, that'll help you much more than trying to draw from memory. I really like those bone studies, they're neatz. ^_^

Hi, today iīve done some scapula studies from Bammes, one half nude (donīt know yet how to scan paper size A3, and a face from imagination, got to work on the mouth angle it seems...
Q: Is the size of my scans to big, or is it good this way?
enjoy, c & c.

starzik: thanx for visiting, i do want to get more into life studies, but its hard to find a model with time atm. in the meanwhile iīll do some self portraits and some imagination stuff, btw are they (the heads) that bad? i kind of like them...

Hi, i was wondering how is it that you did the background from your Post about: My Brush Test
PS+MOUSE ? you know wich i mean?
i love it and would like to learn how to...
thanx in advanct

To make that backgraund like mine for example, u need some new shapes brushes. You can find it searching in google (key words:photoshop brushes)
I recommending http://www.psbrushes.net/shapes_01.php
It's a great page whit a lots of brushes:)
If you'll choose some brushes throw it in photoshop and make some experiments whit it. Just play whit it.

If u want to change the thumbnail, go to the first post and click on "Edit" button and than "Go Advanced"
There u'll have near Smiles something like "Attachments".
Whit this option u can change order of the pictures. "Menage attachments" let u add or delete pictures.
I hope it'll help u.

ps.
Great SKETCHBOOK. I like your bones study. You are very talented
cheers

Azalin
March 25th, 2008, 07:18 PM
phoenicorn: thanx for stopping by ;) i do have a lot of books which i bought at the very beginning, and only starting to use until now, that they make more sense, almost 2 years later :P

And a quickie expression study with Painter, i think i did it too opaque but since its digital iīll retouch it some other time, now time for bed.

Azalin
March 26th, 2008, 04:29 PM

Iīll do some serious studies when i have some more time left, atm iīm just trying to visualize the muscles and bones in 3D... wich is giving me a very hard time as you can see

April 7th, 2008, 12:31 AM
Thanx for visiting my SB guys.
Iīve been procrastinating to much with anatomy studies so i think its time to get in my head once and for all, iīll try to do at least a study a day.

Azalin
April 17th, 2008, 05:27 PM
sorry, iīve been a little lazy to post this last week, but not to draw!
so here are some more arm anatomy studies from E. Goldfinger & Bridgeman... it sure makes more sense to do Bridgeman Studies after understanding whats beneath thanx to Goldfinger anat. book.
The rest are some "seriously" rendered bones, and a nose :) Think iīm getting the hang of it, just wish it could do them faster ;)

April 27th, 2008, 05:31 AM

Whitevillage
April 27th, 2008, 11:39 AM
Good work on the studies, but you should concentrate more on the facial form of your heads. But there is certainly improvement, congratulations!

Azalin
April 27th, 2008, 03:30 PM
Thanx Whitevillage, nice to hear that there are improvements since i bearly notice it at all. Your right, i should get back to drawing faces, but like i said i didnt feel that i was improving at all so i decided to focus on anatomy atm,
and what other artist to learn from than Bridgman... iīll get into faces later again, promise.

Azalin
April 28th, 2008, 12:51 AM
... and the last part of last week work

Whitevillage
April 28th, 2008, 03:22 AM
Just take your time about the facial studies later. Fundemental anatomy ofcourse, is very important too. I'm the same way actually. ;)

Pigeonkill
May 3rd, 2008, 07:36 PM
Keep on up the bridgemen studies yours are done very clean and the forms show. Your first few drawings in line work were really hairy but now they are crisp, which is great. For great practice on drawings heads you can always do tons of self portraits, and you don't have to show anybody. It harder to work from 3d objects than 2d reference, well at least for me sometimes.

Azalin
May 4th, 2008, 04:22 PM
Thanx for passing by Pigeonkill. Your right i should get back into doing some selfportraits... (and into Bridgeman studies!)
Didnīt have much patient today to stare at myself in front of the mirror, so i took some photos, hereīs a quick digital version of a SP, took me about an hour with Painter, use the dig. airbrush, i know i suck at Digital...

Azalin
May 4th, 2008, 09:11 PM

Azalin
May 7th, 2008, 02:46 PM
hi again,
here are some Figure Drawing Attempts where it shows pretty clear my anatomy limitations, then some Life Drawings on the Train, and the last a Ribcage Study from Sarah Simbletīs Anatomy book.

C & C are very wellcome...

ps. Anyone knows why photobucket has blocked some of my pictures?

algenpfleger
May 8th, 2008, 04:39 PM
Oh, good studies! Always great to see :) Photobucket blocks pictures because photobucket is stupid. But you can use the conceptart-attachment manager instead :) Please keep it up, and I'd like to see some more colors :D

Oh, and one more thing. The trick about anatomy is understanding, so just copying does help not much. Get yourself a mirror, get naked and draw the real deal! First you do studies from the books, and when you know what to look for, search the important stuff on your own body. Makes understanding stuff so much easier! Oh and then, of course, you need to draw it from head to check out what you need to improve. Keep going! :D

Azalin
May 9th, 2008, 07:22 PM
Hi Algenpfleger,
Thanx for stopping by, iīm planning on working more with colors, watercolors is what in the momment is calling my attention but still havenīt got much worth posting, did some stuff today wich i would like to post but canīt find it atm so another day will be.
About anatomy your absolutely right, allways when iīm working on something specially on a study if thereīs something i donīt get i get my Ref. Anat. books to look it up cause theres no sense in just copying some lines, i have (want) to know why did X artist put it there. Getting naked and draw the real deal sounds quite intersthing might try it one day when nooneīs around ;)

I havenīt much to post now cause i had some visit, but still found some time to do a study of Raffaelo Sanzio, "Study for Adam" a quite long one actually (almost 2 days) trying to challenge my skills but mostly my patience (iīm not used to doing sooo long studies) as a recommendation from someone.

as allways C&C Wellcome...

ps. i think iīm also learning to scan :)

pps. hereīs my process as well

DannySketch
May 10th, 2008, 07:33 AM
nice to see the studys, try doing some things from your imagination to really hammer the form home, for example if you copy a picture of a figure perhaps draw the figure again from the opposite angle, its hard but it makes you think about the things your drawing as 3d objects which will really help.

good stuff so far, keep sharing

Azalin
May 10th, 2008, 06:09 PM
Hi DannySketch, thanx for stopping by.
When you mean i should draw the figure from an opposite angle, should i do it from imagination or while iīm doing the copy?

So hereīs my first try into the wonderfull world of water color, and can only say i love it, so expect more of this...
and of course some anat. studies as well.

critics & comments wellcome as allways

Azalin
May 16th, 2008, 11:43 AM
Two Portraits for today using this method and Ref. from (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=119502), one digital and the other one with Charcoal, about 30 minutes each. The charcoal one doesnīt look nothing like the ref but i like how it turned out anyway. hope you do also.

C&C welcome

May 19th, 2008, 10:02 AM
Here are my Weekend Drawings... some more "boring" arms, and 2 life Portraits, of some Flatmates, the first one took me 20 mins. the second one about 25/30. I know i suck at portraits so thats why iīm gonna try to do more of them until i get them to the perfection (if thatīs possible).

C&C are wellcome.

Wonderful figure and nature studies! You're very dedicated, and that's inspiring. You handle traditional media especially well. About that b/w digital portrait, be careful not to use only soft brushes. It'll look more realistic with more hard edges, like the charcoal one below.

Azalin
May 25th, 2008, 06:24 AM
so enough with being absent, was quite busy last week, a bit sick as well, so i just managed to do 2 portraits (one ref with ballpoint, the other one life with a conte charcoal pencil) and some big life drawings with charcoal that iīll post once i make a photo of them...

Azalin
May 25th, 2008, 01:24 PM
a quick study from "La belle Ferroničre" from Leonardo Da Vinci, and a digital WIP in Painter, from a magazine i found on learning to use Painter to simulate Charcoal... iīll post the finished one after iīm done.
c&c wellcome

20 min life Portrait, 2 blind contour portraits (strange but i like them more than the 20min portrait) & the finished Digital Charcoal tutorial with Painter, it was really fun and learned a lot from Painter, so ill post some more soon...

Azalin
May 28th, 2008, 09:57 AM
Two Leonardo studies, one (Study of Madonna with the yarnwinder?) 1.30 hours and the other one (study of a womans head) 1/2 an hour, theyīre not that good, but my main focus were the eyes, wich i think came out pretty well, i think...
Then another Life Blind Contour drawing, the one with the cigarette i like a lot.

c&c as always welcome

Hi there, here are my portraits of the day...
one study after leoīs "Study for the Last Supper" done with a 3b Mechanical Pencil, not that happy with the rendering, so i think ill do this one again, when i have more experience. The other is ref. digital portrait of my mother when she was young done with Painter using Charcoals tools.

Here are my master studies from this weekend. iīve done this
ones from a new book i bought, its called "Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters" from Robert B. Hale, really recommend it, its got pretty good insights about copying masters works. also recommend getting his others book, one about Anatomy and the other one about the Figure, all based on the study of the Masters.

so the first one is from Fusseli - "The Dead Achilles mourned by Tethis" and the other one is from Carracci "Standing figure of a nude woman"

hope you guys like them...

C&C wellcome

These are looking so good and glad to see painter work for someone!! your mother looks amazing, work on the position of her mouth a little and you are golden! her expression is so solid - your studies are paying off.
