View Full Version : Teen Challenge #42: space corsair
TLL
February 24th, 2008, 05:43 PM
Because no one else started a new Teen Challenge for weeks now, I'm trying to do it this time. I hope there are still some teens out there :P
And I hope you like the topic.
The Rules:
Anyone ages 13-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline. Please host your image on a remote image-hosting site instead of uploading it to the CA server. This makes it much easier to transfer it to the poll thread.
The Topic: space corsair
This means you design an space coursair (pirate) from the future. If you got more time you could also design a whole pirate-crew.
A description would be nice but it's not necessary
IMPORTANT
1. Add a border around your image with your name and the topic, like they do with the other of the week challenges.
2. Plese do not use attachment manager, but outside host your image.
3. Mark your final as final
The Deadline:
Sunday, the 9th of March.
two weeks

Just some quick thumbnails of what the pirates gear and vehicle. Both of them will probably change but it's a start.

This looks like a great contest. Teen challenge? Hell yes.

There's my take, so far. WIP, obviously. Can't have a space pirate without mechanical prosthetic limbs and innumerable scars, now can we? No we can not.

I'm almost done with the pencil drawing. I'd scan the WIP but I'm in the middle of Theology class hahaha... Also I thought corsairs were the turkish pirates?
SlimmerCat, I really like the expression on his face, he looks like a real scallywag. >=D

Actually, corsairs were specifically French privateers, but nowadays it's taken to just be a synonym for pirate. (A "Turkish corsair" would just mean "Turkish pirate", see?)
Also, thanks! I'm bound and determined to win this here contest or bust!

Here's my final, I decided to go all-out and design a whole crew. Meet the rag-tag space corsairs of the "Moderately Jocular Vessel Allehandra"
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h246/mmmmmmb/spacecorsair.jpg
From left to right:
Jenna - The real power behind the throne, Jenna is one tough (and, uh, huge) lass.
Fredrick Scrapper - Captain purely due to tax reasons (as he has a cybernetic arm, he gets disability allowances), and reluctant husband to Jenna, Fredrick spends most of his life on the edge of a panic attack. He is slightly radioactive due to eating a contaminated hamburger on the dodgy side of the galaxy, but nobody mentions the fact he glows for fear the shock would kill him.
Blethe - belonging to a species paranoid about their size, Blethe is constantly coming up with outrageous tales of his exploits, which are almost entirely untrue. Due to his small size, he makes a great scout and lookout.
Andre - her species aren't usually that red. She's just really, REALLY sunburned. She wears hypoallergenic, light clothes and screams at anyone/anything that touches her tender skin.
Mandy - pretty sane, pretty normal, wields an arsenal made entirely of vegetables (GM vegetable guns are all the rage in space - they prove a much needed snack at the end of a battle)
Thanks go to Snarfevs for the crit :D
Hope ye like 'em :D

Space Pirate.
WIP.
Went to make this a freaky oldschool cyborg-pirate.

I was going to give him a space-motorcycle/"ship" (and a female "first-mate"), but I doubt I'll have time to at this point.
The first thing that came to mind when I heard "space pirate" was, predictably, an old-timey type pirate thrown into a Sci-Fi setting. But really, isn't that what most everyone thinks of? While it can be really cool if executed well (a la Treasure Planet-- you cannot deny it's badassery) just giving an old-timey type pirate some mechanical parts and a futuristic ship is just... predictable.
So I was trying to make him seem more "realistic," for lack of a better word. We all know that, while pirates were most common back in the olden days, there are still pirates around to this day, still robbing people on the seas (or through the internet as hackers, if you want to really get specific). The only thing is, instead of fighting with cutlasses and sailing the seas in giant ships, they carry sub-machine guns and ride around in motor boats. They don't say "arrgh", and more often than not they don't have hook hands or peg legs (In today's day and age, you simply couldn't continue as a pirate with that kind of disability), but they most definitely drink cheap booze and smell just as awful as old-time pirates.
So this was meant to be what I think a real-life pirate would be like-- in the future. He'd have the latest technology at his disposal (Which I would have illustrated with his motorcycle, but I now do not have the time to portray it the way I'd like to.) and, while being rather scruffy, would be very professional and know what he's doing. See? This pirate I've made is fairly successful, seeing as how he's got pretty nice clothes and takes good care of his mechanical legs. He's more than likely both types of pirate-- a rob-and-pillage pirate, and a hack-into-your-bank-account pirate.
So... there's my entry, I suppose! Best of luck to everyone involved!
By the way: The gun he is holding is (my awful attempt at) a Czech Skorpion; here is my reference. (http://www.genitron.com/Unique/Czeska-Skorpion.jpg)

Captain Blue Star is not your typical space pirate. Formerly a star fleet commander of her home world, she grew tired of taking orders from the general. Now she travels the galaxy with only a small, though very skilled, crew by her side.
Don't be mistaken; Captain Blue Star is no outlaw, more of a vigilante. She only raids the enemies of her home world and takes every opportunity to help friends in need. Her star frigate, the Nebula, is known all throughout the galaxy as a glimmer of hope, even in the darkest of places.
Deep space can get very lonely at times. That is why Captain Blue Star keeps her holo-parrot, Tookey, in close company. They've become great friends over the years.
Great topic TLL, it was alot of fun!

extremely rushed =(
Female space pirates trick gullible men into giving them all their treasures. After looting the milky way galaxy, they've retrieved new foreign pets from planet Ryker for their incredible smelling powers that can track any scent from a light year away. Now they're on their way to finding the grand treasure of the universe.

K, what kind of environment then?

I'd have to vote either character design or environment, as everyone else says. I haven't done much environment design, it'd be a nice opportunity.

I had the idea "The bridge-castle" where you should design a castle wich stands on two sides of a big river with a big bridge in the middle (maybe the castle could be the bridge in one building.
What do you think about this topic?
Diphallia
March 10th, 2008, 11:40 AM
Sounds cool, but a bit too unfree.
There's not much chance to interpret the topic for yourself.
Or what to say.

Thats true. Maybe "your family-castle"
This means how would the castle or palace of your family would look like?
BettyHime
March 10th, 2008, 12:13 PM
I just have this sort of candy-land image now, sweets and suga that would be what my castle would be made out of :p
