Some lovely work, R-idz. It would be a shame if you didn't finish the Chow piece... it looks like it's just crying out to be done in colour. Lots of nice little ideas going on. Keep up the good work.

hey, thanks for stopping by my book! :D
ooooh, that girl in blue is so beautiful!! is that from ref? loving the colors and the calm red of her cheeks.
i also like that you do a lot of studies, that's always a good thing.
however, i suggest you get yourself some bridgman or vanderpoel, because with anatomy it's very useful to know why exactly things work like they work. keep it up! :)

Beautiful water color painting! If you are interested in concept art, do take a look at the program at Max the Mutt. I think you'd be a good candidate.

Really nice stuff going on! Especially like the girl of your avatar, and the screaming figure in your second post! Are you a student of art school currently or this is those you made by yourself? Keep it up! :)

Some good stuff. I quite like the environments. While taking up references for figures and faces is good for studying, you should do a lot more straight from your imagination. It keeps you from getting attached to refs and allows you more creative freedom in the long-run. Again, good stuff.

thanks for the feedback, guys!
clochette: right now i'm in a one-year design foundation program.. it's more directed at things like package design or industrial design though, not much of this type stuff. this is all stuff i've done on my own.
peringalitte: you're right. i do actually do stuff from my head though, and some of these faces are... but now that i look at what i've posted here i realize that i've posted more ones that arent from my head than that are! guess i know what'll be posting soon :)

Some good potential here...would have been nice if youd gotten round to finishing the chow piece, looks sweet so far. Also dig the pencil study of the rocks in the 5th post and the blue girl. I'd be carefull with the use of blacks when you go to colour, in some pieces it makes things a bit muddy-try using darker tones of the same colour instead. Keep up the good work:)

I really like the loose pen work on the lying woman picture. The two last images on post 5 are my other favourites from you, colours are just deliscious and the mood in the latter one is incredible. One thing I notice in your anatomy overally is that you often draw the arms unnaturally thin. The lying woman has them correct though but her hand near the forehead looks tiny (keeping in mind its length should be roughly from chin to hairline).
Generally you seem to have a pretty good grasp of everyting and your use of colours sure makes me want to visit again. Maybe anatomy studies from books would be always useful when you've got nothing else to draw but whatever you do, keep them coming! :)

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!
You have some very nice stuff here. My favorites are the sketches of the inukshuk and the blue haired gal.
You mentioned wanting some crits on your anatomy, so.... :)
On your girl covered in cloth, there are a couple of things off. Her right (our left) hand is too low on her arm. Her wrist bone seems to be sticking out because of this. This hand is also a touch small. Also, if you look at her legs are going, they appear to be attaching much lower than where her body should end. Her feet are also a little small, although that might just be my bias because I have huge feet.
Your shading also seems to be stuck with a top left to bottom right stroke a lot of the time.

ok these arent 100% recent.. but they're from around christmas or so and i just havent posted them for some reason, so they're close enough!
the first is a portrait of my friend, the second was part of a school assignment (it was more about changing colour schemes than the image, i'd post that but i dont have it scanned and... i'm lazy.)
and the last is just something from my head while sitting in class, from looking at a perfume bottle in my purse. dont ask why it became a moustached gentleman, it just seemed right :)

i just went through all my drawings and things i had on my computer, because they were all over the place and duplicated etc. i really have to stop doing these things at 2 in the morning!
but anyways heres some junk that got lost in the abyss.
1. a 5 min sketch of my friend
2. i had a dream i was swimming with mantas... i felt really relaxed when i woke up. and then i ended up sketching this later that day.
3. this ones a bit old but i'll post it anyway. my sisters friend.
4. my first try at illustrator! i'm happy with the result.
5. part of a book cover i had to do for a school assignment.
6. another one for school, but this time just a quick sketch. we had to come up with a funky watch design and display.. this was just a little idea i didnt end up using and forgot about til now, a braces watch that goes into a display mouth! and the display head can look all nice and nerdy, of course. i'm allowed to make fun of braces because i have them :teeth:
7. and last, a wip that i TOTALLY forgot about until right now! i'll hopefully get back to this one sometime soon.
that's all for now, i'll update with some actual new stuff someday, i'm enjoying my tiny bit of nothingness time now that schools done, and spending it doing... nothing. but it's back to work tomorrow...

I actually disagree with this. There is nothing wrong with working from reference, and honestly there are a LOT of artists who would benefit from looking at reference more often. Can it be a crutch? Certainly, but it far from only useful for studying.
I think your work seems tremendous for your age. You've got a grasp on the fundamentals that even many adult artists lack. Your figures are stunning for a first year (and I've seen many graduates with far worse skills).

this one was to take your full name and a color and put them into an anagram generator, then pick one of the anagrams and create a character that fits it. and do the illustration in most/all that color.
my anagram: cagey lizard herder
color was grey.
and i couldnt get anything sketched that i liked for ages, so i ended up doing the whole thing the night before and getting no sleep. woot!

Ha, forgot to post this a few weeks ago when I was actually working on it, heres a quick sketch for an assignment I did. Basically we just had to do a watercolour using different techniques, and include a silo, barn, trees, clouds... I forget what else, maybe a few other things. And also have something that we choose ourself, and make it interesting. I had a bit of fun with it, this is my initial sketch. Not my most treasured piece of work, but my classmates got a kick out of it at least.
Hopefully I'll get around to posting the final when i get back home.
