We (a friend and I) are starting a small independent fantasy zine in the Edmonton area, and are seeking an artist to run a serial graphic novel. The zine will feature fantasy art, novels and short stories, and start with a small circulation in our area.
The graphic novel would run at least two pages per month, but could run as many as ten depending on the artist\'s pace. The artist would also be needed to help with illustrations and covers, though these duties will be split with one of the writers. In addition, the artist would be able to make use of the Editorial page whenever the mood strikes.
Honestly, like any new zine, we\'re not likely to make tons of cash off the first few runs. Frankly, we\'ll be lucky to make cost back. Our real goals are celebration of the fantasy genre and gaining publication experience and credit. We hope to get started in the writing business by making our own breaks, and if you want to get your name out, we\'d be happy to help. Of course, we\'ll also send you copies of every issue should you wish to distribute in your own area.
We need a reliable artist who can maintain a monthly publication schedule, and although we\'re not looking for a professional, we are looking for someone with a professional attitude. Local is preferred, but not absolutely necessary. If we do turn a profit, we will of course share the proceeds equally, but they will be in Canadian dollars. Ability to write is an asset, but we will be glad to assist with plot and dialogue if needed.
Our zine will maintain a 14A-ish rating, which means sex and violence are allowed but graphic mature situations should be avoided. We don\'t mind manga-style, but we have such an artist on staff already and would prefer the variety of a Western approach.
Anyone interested in joining our team should email a sample of their work in black and white to Nornwell@gmail.com. If you have a proposal for a graphic novel, or even have one finished, we would love to see it.
Thank you, and we hope to hear from you!
