How do I find out how tall my model is in real-world units?
How big is a "maya-unit"?

the default unit is supposedly 1 cm. However, I consider them feet. If you were to export in Deep exploration to say, Max, it works for me as feet.

Ok and how exactly do I measure it?

sorry, not sure if maya has a tape measure tool, like max. One work around would be to create a cylinder right over the thing you want measured, and make sure in options its pivot is placed at the bottom. then middle mouse drag its hieght so that it matches your object, and that is the hieght of your object in maya units.

Hey go to create>measure tools>distance tool. that way you get the measurement tools you are looking for. Also you must be knowing how to change the distance using the settings and pref. if not go to window>set/pref>pref>settings. I hope this helps.
