Images were done in painter8

Sketched image quickly from reference
http://www.creatureone.com/02/nom01.jpg

Floated sketch. turned sketch into a shadow map layer. mapped colors.

Continued mapping
http://www.creatureone.com/02/nom03.jpg

Added a new layer with no background. Started to paint ontop of both layers with brushes with 100% resat, so there would be no smudging of the 'white'. Also added custom paper grain to break up the smoothness of the overall piece. When I was done I turned the shadow map layer into a gel layer and dropped all.

nice color-scheme and the pose is also very nice...
but i think the demo is a bit too short

well there weren't many steps and that was somewhat what was i getting at.

sketch>float>put in colors>finish with a top layer

Pretty cool process D!

I dont know to much about layer options in painter. Whats a shadow map layer, and why did you choose to use if over, lets say, a regular layer, or a gel layer?

The only thing I would change would be the saturation of her skin. It looks good, but I think it has too much orange.

i believe there is no difference between the gel layer when working with line art, sometimes though it feels like the gel layer makes things a bit darker...

shadow map is used for say...

if you had a greyscale drawing and you wanted to paint under it but keep the value levels of the greyscale. I'm just used to picking shadowmap over gel now

nice.. the red green contrast is really bold, and i think desaturating it would take away from that some what..
yo mentioned changing resaturation to 100% to remove the "white effect" is there a negative side to doing that..those white smudges have been bugging the crap outta me lately, and id love to just turn them off

what are some of the brushes you used?

i'll give the saturation idea a try and play more with the background later

DragonGX, i used all custom brushs on this piece besides the digital watercolor: salt for the white dots that no one probably likes :p

looks great davi,

you probably already know this but the only thing i'd suggest is changing the totally white highlight on the nose slightly to something warmer. the rest of the face is very warm implying some kinda of yellow/orangish light source. the white highlight sorta goes against that.

and perhaps a little more attention to the shoulder/clavicle area.

seems like you are headed in a cool direction.. with this and some of the other studies you've posted. good luck.

if you had a greyscale drawing and you wanted to paint under it but keep the value levels of the greyscale

Is that similar to using a multiply layer in photoshop? I just got painter 8 last night.

Excellent work, but you dont need me to tell you that. :D

This is a wonderful piece. I love the colors you have chosen, and the heavy strokes in your style. Excellent work.
