I fixed this frustrating little problem that appeared on my new PC earlier today. I thought I'd post this information as it's caused by a common piece of software so I'm sure some other people will experience it. ( And I couldn't find any reference to it when I looked here on my quest for a solution..! )
The problem -
Photoshop's active document window intermittently flashing white. It only occurs when Photoshop is the active program, and only in the active window - Photoshop's main window, palettes etc. are all unaffected.
Why -
Something to do with recent Microsoft Intellipoint drivers. It includes some kind of magnification feature which is constantly taking screengrabs, even when that function is disabled, and that's buggering up windows which aren't continually refreshed.
The solution -
The offending program is ipoint.exe. This can be turned off through the task manager as a quick fix, or you can install older Intellipoint drivers. This seems to be an issue with drivers from 6.1 onwards. ( Some users seem to be having problems with 5.5, but I'm running that version without any trouble. )
Note that this isn't a Photoshop issue, and could well affect other programs. Let's hope Microsoft get around to fixing it before long.
