Thats awesome, Asterix would be proud of his fellow countrymen :D . The muscles on that one guy's back and the focal character are very nifty, and accurate!

Its a famous Roman piece titled "the Dying Gaul," for those of you who have not been forced to sit through countless three-hour sessions of slides in a western art history class!

Hey Mitch, very cool, and very dynamic. For the most part, the anatomy is very convincing, although there are a few spots which could use some work. The sword-bearing hand on the guy who just got his face slapped, for one. Then from about the lats down on the guy lowest in the composition. Something also bothers me about the fact that the latter's arm is wapped around the gauls torso. I think its the fact that his head is turned away. If he was trying to restrain the gaul, its seems to me that he should be looking at him. And how 'bout a helmet flying offa the slapped-guy's head? Keep posting more!

Thanx guys

Mac you're spot on!. that statue as a direct inspiration to this drawing. I would say more like 5 minutes though. and as far as art history I havn't had it yet. I've had humanities and couldn't get enough. I'll take a look at the areas you mentioned. The hand does look funky. The roman at the bottom is trying to pull him down. I studied sports illustrated footbal action photos for reference. I noticed that when defense guys are about to slam a QB down to the earth they tend to look down right before impact. I thought that if he was looking up at him he would look more like he was pleading for mercy. Thanks for the crits, that's why I love this forum.

mitch, this is plain awesome!

it' so dynamic, one can feel the air of battle going on there. the desperate last man standing, fighting with every bit of a weapon his hands can have a grasp on...

wow :)

let's make a deal: as soon as either i come across the pond or you decide to make holidays in germany, we have to meet for a beer or two and some drawing.

uh, yeah, that is great, mcotie. your detail is excellent. I think the guy wrapping up the gaul is really done well. I caught onto his action immediately, knew exactly that as soon as the man was on the ground, the roman in the background was about a sec away from finishing off this fighter. great story making in the process, you get a full feel of the intensity of all odds against him, and yet, he refuses to give up.

thanks for the inspiration...

beautiful pencil work mcotie. the characters are really dynamic. i wouldnt worry about the roman tackler, i spotted his move right away too. the only thing i have a problem with is the gauls right pect...just doesnt look right to me...anyways, nitpicking as always :D

Good stuff man, you ever hear of The Red Star, it's an Image comic. This sketch has a similar feel to some of the stuff they put out. It's one of my favorite comics.

I made the recommended changes to this pic. I added the helmet, fixed the funky fingers, and gave the dude at the bottom a bit more waistline.

Hey man
Your stuff is awesome, real stylish pencil there.
Only thing i gotta coment on the main character, his right pectoral, it looks like its almost flat at the bottom part there.

Just my 2c, i might be completley off but hey :)
