So because ConCrete has graciously offered to mentor me and I can use all the help I can get I've decided to open a sketchbook for anyone and everyone to critique as harshly as they like.

I had not drawn in many years until last spring when I decided to follow something I've always wanted to do. Since then I've taken a drawing 1 class at my local community college and am enrolled in drawing 2 and life drawing this semester.

This was the best I could do in the summer of 2007.

So my drawing teacher showed us a book of plates from Renoir, Degas, Matisse, Frida, and others. Then asked us to create our "masterpieces" the ones that would be published in a book like this in the future.

I understand he basically wants to get an idea of what we want to draw so he can better decide how to help us achieve that. However... the word "masterpiece" completely froze me up.

So instead of my masterpiece I came up with this. Which isn't a masterpiece or even close to an average illustration. But it is what it is.

Charcoal pencil and white pencil on toned paper.
