hey man not a bad sketchbook. i like all the shading but it looks like you could ease up on the hardness and try softness. some areas are to dark and some areas are too light. overall its really good sketches for portaits. i hope this helps. :rocker:

Welcome back dude :)

Thought I'd never see you again.
So no digi means no sketcher i guess? Cool to see you so serious about this tho. Nice sketches dude, but you need to get a scanner :P.

Lets see that crazy perspective!

I asked kanoa like two days ago or some shit if he ever thought we'd talk to you again, haha. Guess so

now quit reading this and get in SKETCHER

seth1
February 20th, 2008, 12:28 AM
l0stinth0ughts: Thanks for the thoughts man.. It's not so much being to dark or to light in most cases I am going for this effect. With my edges I really need to play more with lost and found edges. For now these will be all shitty looking until my scanner gets here.

Exquisite Beast: You will see more. Just keep coming back :) Cheers.

serhc: Hey man! How are you doing? Hope you have been sketching a ton... Yeah I drooped out not because it was hard but because I don't want to be a solider, when I can create my own battles on paper illustrate more divine pleasurable battle. If i want to kill something Ill just go hunting. Cant go wrong with some Fresh Deer sausage and jerky.

KanoaRogers: Hey son! Haha, I thought I would never see the day of light again. Shit fliped out in my brain, and said "FUCK you, you son of a bitch get drawing again, CREATE, CREATE>>>> even know you suck. Naa, I would sketch in sketcher if the internet was faster. Get this, all we get here is 26.6 K WTF, my grandma can wipe her ass faster then the pages load. The scanner is on its way! I should have it in Two weeks time, I think. Dude, My perspective sucks I was having trouble drawing boxes in perspective, thats horrid. (I can draw shit with out the lines, but when it comes to following them all hell breaks loose.) I have been drawing for, four years and never really learned per-insert spective, It's a kick in the ass now, how stupid I have been. Any one who is reading this ( don't be a jackass, learn perspective right away it's one of the most important aspects within drawing. Every thing has hidden perspective quoting)

Kvick: Shit dude.. Whatsss up? Crazy, crazy it's good to be back and looking at the sketch books of every one! GET UP DATING>>>>>> Slaps ass*. Sketcher, sketcher, slutty- sketchin, balls. I wish, soon. I went bungee jumping on the adventours well I was gone what a rush, DO it..

Draw to post. 10 minutes. PERspEcTiVe coming up soon.

Random thoughts on the process. I have come so accustom to sort of say filling in the blanks? Meaning, I start with the eyes, mark make them, move to the nose, mouth, draw the shape of the head, ears, and hair etcetera. What I really need to be doing is Constructing the head first. With in doing this it will give me a full look at the head as a hole. From there I will be able to critique the proportions, and form edit and move on. This will advance my drawings further.

seth1
February 20th, 2008, 03:32 AM
I am not going to upload my perspective drawings yet I still have a ways to go befor they resemble Perspective :) For now ill give you a nude..

This ended up to be quite fun. I did not end up drawing the head because it seemed like it was in a odd position, not human like. With construction and erasing it really helped out! Simple light lines to complete the figure but i still messed up on the proportions of the torso it's to long/ I saw the mistake on the beginning of the render stage need to pay more attention at the beginning. I left the hands white, I thought it would give the piece an interesting flare.

Imagination. Faces. I really need a scanner taking photos does not do any of the drawings justice.

seth1
February 20th, 2008, 10:43 PM
Bridge man studys with my own twista.

Oh man, I hate how much distortion you get when taking photos with a camera.

I have to watch those feet I like to draw them small.

Using the side of 0.5mm to shade. holding as far back on the pen possible and just letting my pencil flow over the drawing. Easy way to achieve your midtones.

I think legs, and arms are some thing you really need to pay attention to. A set of bad legs will put off the whole drawing but same goes with the whole human body. the proportions need to be in order if you want it to look right.

Edit. Added some hands! Hmm. I am horrible at writing./ PRACTICEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

February 21st, 2008, 06:23 PM
cool stuff in here man. I'd suggest tweaking the value and contrast of your images before posting. Right now everything is super dark.

seth1
February 22nd, 2008, 01:18 AM
InvertedChalupa: Thanks for the drop by man! They are really dark. I will definitely start adjusting the contrast and brightness.

You need to learn to draw before, you can draw. I have been looking over a lot five star threads and every one of them are hard working, patient, individuals. Have really dedicated there time to there art. A lot has to do with taking your time, and thinking about what you are going to do. What can help is roughing out an idea first. Even it that means scribbles, as long as your getting some sort of idea down. You can slowly build up the ideas to finally creating some thing. Over time you will be able to bust out characters and what ever your imagination can think of with out the roughs, and scribbles, it will come naturally. Over all though it's about foundations learning to create form and apply light to the planes and the perspective to create 3d feel to your object.

I am not very pleased with this drawing. I drew my nose to long, the lips are off center. All around it is pretty shitty. Including the distortion from the camerea. Theres so much lead on the paper it turns reflective. haha, it would be hard to scan even if I had one.

Edit.... Updated

hey seth you seem to be on the right track, try studing some anatomical figures and or muscles that should boost your knowledge of the human body, and it will show in your drawings. a little tip i can offer you for the still lifes is do a correct light contour line, once youve mastered that then the shading only comes easy, i hope this helps. keep posting :rocker:

l0stinth0ughts: I did not even see your post before! Hah! Yeah right why would I do it prefect replica? When I can grab a camera for that. Ill try to get the proportions, form, and lighting right with my own touch to what ever that is. You learn more from processing and thinking then just copying! Every thing you paint/draw should be a study in some way.

A drawing I was working on! quick girl.

Need to study proportions! still have to test out what I learned! see if I can remember any thing.. haha. Thats all ways a challenge/ Grrr, I need to do more life draws.

I drew these gestures on A4. There pretty huge... Each one about the size of a 1024x768 screen.. b

Seth, What a great start! You got the idea, pound out those basic structures. Perspective is not an easy thing, I applaud your drive.
I would suggest, for adding to your awesome exploration of figures, is to look at the Andrew Loomis basic figure and head proportion breakdowns. This download has the pages of this diagram in the beginning. there is also one for the head on the same site.
http://basangpanaginip.blogspot.com/2006/01/figure-drawing-for-all-its-worth.html
A neccessary step is to understand how one part of the body relates to another. All figures start with a basic proportion; you change them as you need to to fit a particular person's face of body type, after laying in that first basic structure. This will help greatly in placing features on a face, too and setting them into a solid framework, one that you'll be able to turn in space on a 2D page.
Commit these to memory and then the attack of your figures anatomy, especially live ones, will start to fall into place with increasing accuracy. I guarantee.

seth1
February 29th, 2008, 06:02 AM
AztcFireFlower: Your to kind! I should be drawing way more I am lazyy. I actually have all his books. Was just about to go through that one and get dirty into some studies. My brain just does not want to proportion things properly. = Need to draw more. Study proportions, draw more, Understand what I am drawing, draw more and then look and see the horrible messes I have produced/// Thanks dear..

started off as a quick painting from ref/ Then some how it ended up like this. Now I am doing to paint an apple then draw 50 gestures and after study loomis.

Edit.. added apple.

So I am giving up digital, for now! What I feel is I need to have a solid foundation to really push my self to greater heights. With leaving digital it will give me more one on one time with the pencil and paper. With doing so it's going to help my out with sketching, value, tone line quality all around every thing that needs to be learned can be done from pencil.

What happened to this? Where
are your pencil studies? Stop
those digis and do pencils!!

I like the gestures, really shows
how much you are working.

seth1
February 29th, 2008, 12:58 PM
Matt. Oh I am doing pencils man! When ever I am just chilling or not hittin up digital I am drawing like a mad man! Heads, hands, feet. Going to get the anatomy and person drawing down. Shit starting to piss me off. I just want to be able to draw and draw some thing from head with proper proportions and anatomy. I have to ice my hand before I go to bed my hand hurts so much I didn't do it the night before I could barely move it.. I think I get white hand so bad from working on the rigs when i did. Oh well Push through the pain and wahaha I don't know man. LETS DRAWWWWWW 100 hands...

Gestures... Picked one that I thought was a bit decent and did a quick 2 minute paint...

I admire your dedication. I sense some graphical directions you're heading for but you still put only one foot in. One little suggestion: sometimes when painting digitally experiment with hard square brushes instead of soft round ones.

seth1
March 18th, 2008, 01:00 PM
Leo Ki: Every thing here allmost done in sketcher. They only have one brush that is round soo my brushes are very limited! I cant use Photoshop because I have no pen nib left, i draw with the eraser in sketcher. Does me justice for now. Thanks for the crits. The other day I sat down and drew the bridgman book I didn't scan every thing though. There is over 70 pages, so I just grabbed a few pages. Starting to have more of a realization with the muscles and there functions and it's helping when drawing every thing else. Thinking of the functionality of the whole design and how it works. Really pushes me further, well I am drawing people/things now I am constantly visualizing how the muscles will work, or where they are placed, how the object will move. It's quite a fun process. Going to try and sit down and draw bridgman once a week for a month see what happens.

Hi nice work , just a suggestion that maybe you should concentrate your efforts on construction with good old lines in pencil for a bit longer before jumping into digitals trust me it helps and is much more efficient learning curve just a suggestion, keep the studies coming mate!!.

seth1
March 31st, 2008, 03:27 PM
aussiedeza: Ah yes, construction. I don't know whats my problem is but even when I draw with construction lines I dont use them, haha. I am starting to become more aware of proportion slowly/ When i draw, i just seem to over look things that are there. Try to take in every thing in when i only need to take in the basic structure and and forms.. I dunno it's coming slowly. Slow learner/

cool stuff, I see you're into drawin heads as much as me! i think you might benefit from doing some head gestures from life... coffeeshops is good, try to nail the likeness in as few strokes as possible, markers/pens/brushes are great for this. Quick studies are a great way to get a variety of shapes into your head without stressing about how good the drawing is. Plus it can be really fun :)

thanks for stoppin by my book, I'll check back in here!

Your to funny. Get drawing girl.

I love drawing heads. I suck at them though, they allways end being the same head. I am starting to think about what I am doing more with Different skull variations and facial features. With the coffee shop suggestion I would love to, but I live In the mountains allmost. lost my license, can't get any where:oneye: Ill pretend I am in a coffee shop and do a bunch of head gestures. Woo.

:) Great to see you dropping off advice. Thanks for looking man.

works in progress, studys.

Edit. forgot some shiz

great improvement man, just make sure you watch your proportions on your figures before you start rendering them or finishing up linework.

I agree with you %150. It will come sooner or later but i am trying my hardest to catch them, some times they just slip. You scan in your drawings and your like shit, fuck, look at this, theres a million things wrong.

Playing around with traditional. Starting to approach my drawings in more of an abstract thinking, it's kinda fun.

Dont really save any thing that I draw on the computer any more. Probably the fact nothing I draw is worth saving. I just draw erase draw erase sort of thing I randomly happend to save these two things.

Flaskpost: Thanks man...

ah-hah. I broke my tablet pen out of anger and choose. I am pretty fed up with not being able to throw down the same lines and creativity I can get on the computer, I want that on paper, thats bullshit in my mind that I have trouble drawing on paper but not on digital. . Ill keep on drawing on the comp as long as I have a pen, So I broke it to force my self to draw on paper all the time.

cool stuff!
Chill down on the soft brushes though, unless you really want to persue that look, but it has a tendency to look dull and un interesting for the eye to look at (everything slightly out of focus)
Instead, try to get varying quality on your edges, some soft, some hard. Variety is usually a key element of an interesting composition. Another example like this is to have some curved lines, but also some sharp, straight lines.

cheers

damn dude, you've got balls smashing up your pen like that

anyway, it's great that you're moving back to pencil and paper - i've always loved the stuff you come up with in sketcher, and i'm trying to get that same line sensitivity you've got digitally :| im much better with pencil and paper than with my tablet

good luck with the traditional stuff dude, can't wait to see your next update :]

lol dude i know what you mean when you say it seems things done on the comp are more creative than on paper. i feel that way sometimes. but a little traditional work never hurt anyone, its probably good to take a break from digital stuff for a little.

Hey Seth,

Nice Studies. But, I don't see very many life drawings. I think you would improve tremendously if you went to regular life drawing sessions, drawing the live figure. A bunch of your stuff is looking quite flat...figure drawing will free up your drawings a bit more.

Keep it up.
