P.O.W.! Challenge 5
Deadline: March 4, 2008, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.

Topic: The Way Out.

Not quite a cliché, but I think there might be a possibility for a lot more variation here than we think at first blush... Interpret any way you wish. Any media. B&W or Color.

You can present your solution as a minimum of TWO to a maximum of SIX pages which adhere to standard comic specs as below...and, yes, you can have the first or last (or both) as a splash page if you want.

Standard Comic Book Size:

--Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
--Live art area: 6" x 9"
--Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)

This thread will be the place you ask questions on this challenge, trash talk, post WIPs and your final art. See the READ THIS FIRST thread for all specs.

Good luck.

P.O.W.! Challenge 6 will be posted before Tuesday Midnight, February 26, 2008.

yay, this is the kind of super open-to-any-interpretation topic I had been waiting for! :)
I am in, and if I only manage to do 2 pages!

And we only have 4 days left...
I am trying, I am trying.

Warning! I am doing one, but my medium is collage. Avert your eyes. (Oh yeah, it's another stupid story that no one will understand concerning a box canyon. (My mind also temporarily in the gutter)).

Anyone have a suggestion on how to cut construction paper into the shape of flying spit? My sheriff chews tobacco.

Page 2 final. I'm having some computer issues. Hope it's legible.

Sorry about the weird sizes. At least I finished something.

Here are the translations of the cowboy-ese:

"Yonder he's a gettin' away" means Look over there, our quarry is escaping.
"Nah, Clem! Don't chew worry none! I reckon that there's a box canyon." means I believe you are mistaken Clem. It seems likely to me there is no other exit from that canyon.
"Gitcher self a drink." means You may now drink.
"Well lookee there! A trail." means Behold! A trail.

Well, here's my entry; one big splash page. Feels a bit like cheating really, it's just one really really big panel...:P

Melonby -- I like it (though I'm not sure it adheres to the rules of the competition -- 2 pages minimum I think?). Anyway, my crit -- you may want to rearrange the word balloons. It's very difficult to tell which order they're supposed to be read in. I almost can't help but read "well when dealing with..." first. Also, you misspelled "transdimensional".

Melonby - cool artwork! But the bubble order is really hard to figure out in the first place.

Attourney - flying spit? make it comet shaped

I just came up with an idea... deadline horror XD

Status Report: Mine will be done on time for sure.
All those years in first grade really paid off. If I had round pointed scissors and some of that tasty white paste they used to give us, I'd be stylin'

Mine's written in cowboy-ese, so I'll be providing a translation for some of the panels.:mod:

Updated above with all three pages and translation. Somebody else enter dammit!

Arttorney, I do your bidding.
*enters*

I worked my ass off on this piece of sh... doubtful art. I never did four A4 pages in one day, I'm so proud. lol
In challenge #1 I got so helpful crit and I tried to realise a few thing. Changed the viewing angle less, but instead tried another perspective here and there. Also the black background is very new to me. My short comic, that will be published in two weeks in an anthology, was made just of lines on white, some very few hatches, spatial red colouring no black areas. My round #1 entry had only black lines on white, too.
Worked fully traditional this time - my multiliner brush s ran down. The last page is so unclean, but I had no spare.

By content and artwork my favourite page is page one. I didn't even have a lighter for model... but I think one can see that it's a lighter....

And, btw, they are in a cave, trying to find the way out. And I hope you can capture the story without words.
