Ok, here's another dinosaur oriented thing... believe me, I'm not 'El Dinofreak', but I like doing texture, so they're definitely good for that. This one was done back in the day when I was working on Jurassic Park (1). I didn't get to sculpt on the show, so this was how I took out my frustration...Hope you like it.
1) The finished character complete with moss between the toes.
2) The clay sculpture prior to molding.
-Sorry the picture quality isn't so sweet, but it was 12 years ago. I'll put up another thread towards the end of the week of something else. Stay tuned, it'll be better than this one.

Wow, awesome sculpt, great job.
You said you worked on JP 1 but didn't get to sculpt? So what did you do for the movie? Just curious.

Rim: I (and my bud Adam Valdez) worked on the stop motion animatic sequences here at Tippett...mainly taking the Winston sculpts and making them into stop-mo puppets. It involved making molds, putting in the armatures guys here made, running foam rubber, painting the things. Before the cg work started, animators here scoped out key sequences in stopmo first. CG was really new and never used to that extent at the time, so the pre-vis helped. I think they put some of those tests into the dvd, so you could check it out.

oooh... thats beautiful~ the detail is amazing and believable, so natural look. not generic slashes n such wich is so popular with sculptures these days ie:mcfarlane figures. such an inspiration, now i gotta get back to sculpting

I watched those stop-motion tests a long time ago on some TV specials. Heh, I was so obsessed with JP. It's awesome (to say the least) to talk to the people who worked on it.
The dino-man is great. I especially like the looseness of the flesh around his neck/collarbone area, and the thick scales. Rock solid work, man.

I'll put something new up next week, something non scaley. Friday I'll put up a bit more old scaley stuff, check back then!

Now a'days I draw things out more often than not. This one was a make-it-up-as-you-go kinda thing. It started as a bust and grew from there. I often do little clay sketches first before commiting to the real thing. Mostly 'cause I couldn't draw for shit. I think I'm better now though.

Thanks a million. I feel my head inflating as I read that.

Ok, this may be overkill, but here's a couple more angles of an unpainted plastic casting of the dude. More fantasy than paleontology, but there you go. Maybe the word is "texturbation".

This gets better. I really like the grouping of plates and scales along his shoulders and upperback. This is too awesome. I'd buy one.
