It looks fairly cool. More tutorial dvds the better i always say, especially by talented artists. :)

I've been going crazy over his DVD for a while, I wish I could understand Japanese.

Vagabond has been a great inspiration for me, along with the original novel that the manga was based on. The best inspirational book, IMO.

Uhm, it was released the 28th of November last year at the same time that he released his latest artbooks (a dual Vagabond set...one watercolor, one ink). It only comes in region2 and is...I think about $50? I do remember there being english subtitles, though.

I could only afford to pick up the books, but my prof bought the DVD and the bit I saw was freaking awesome. Takehiko just busts out a Vagabond piece from scratch to inks while some fanboy interviewer is going on and ON about pointless stuff you don't want to hear about (it's not really an interview at times...just this dude being irritating).

You can pick up the DVD if you've got an extra computer that you don't mind switching to region2 (but be aware that you can only switch back and forth so many times), or a region-less player.

OMG! is this for real? I always thought vagabond was one of the most well illustrated and well told manga novels compared to most.

to see his work process is a given. thanks for sharing this!

It's kind of cool that he extensively use the sumi brush, and from what I've seen in the DVD he uses just this brush for all the inking. Pretty much a smack in the face for all the how-to-draw manga books that have half the book devoted to materials and pen nibs.

A lot of asian artists use solely nibs (manga/manwha has some very thin linework)--and supposedly they're easier to learn for beginners.

I picked up a couple of the brushes he uses in the vid (sorry, the brand is in Japanese, so I've no idea what they are) and they're fantastic, but you could get the same effect out of a long sable.
