Hey all,

Haven't posted much here YET, and hope to change that soon but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on monitors? Currently I'm using a laptop which is limiting me quite a bit, and I'm in the market to make this a dual display.

i'm looking at 20"+ and static image accuracy... i'm not really sure how varied screens at these bigger sizes become in brightness, but that's of course another key feature...

i realize decay is also an issue so i'm kind of clueless, really, on the realities of a big monitor and quality+lifespan

thanks for any help!

UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC 24'' @ $699.00
Apple Cinema 20'' @ $599.00

Those are the two that I've seen recommended most for artists who don't want to pay $1000+

Generally you want a PVA or IPS screen, not a TN. You can plug in a monitor number on this webpage to lookup which type of screen it is: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/

I think I read IPS are slightly better than PVA. I'm still on a 10 year old flickering CRT. Done a lot of research but too cheap to make a move.

Thanks Burtzum, right now I am actually leaning towards the 24" UltraSharp with an Acer as my backup. My issue is that CNET (though being only one scource) has noted that the static image quality on the Dell is not impressive. Have you heard of this being an issue or is it an overstatement?

What about using a Cintiq 21UX as a display? Is that even doable or would that ever be recommended?

I own a dell 2005FPW, it's pretty good with the UltraSharp function. I used that as my drawing monitor before I got my Cintiq.

I won't recommend using Cintiq as display, because it can't stand up right at 90 degrees. It is always a bit tilted and hard to read text when you browse or type. :)

can't go wrong with a samsung 22" syncmaster 226bw only $300. I own one, and I love it, they are quite popular.

2232BW is the updated version of that model. It's a beauty.
