Thank you everybody !!!
In fact, I wasn't sure this picture was successful. I made it too fast, with no time to look at it objectively and work again on it to fix it.
At the beginning, I first began with some completly differents ideas for the composition and I wanted to paint another cathedral view. And then I choose this frontal view to enhance the character and just depict a symbolic part of his Hell.
Bomba : For the style I always try to chose the better kind of rendering for each kind of illustration...It's sometimes a problem for people but it avoid me to get bored...
Trying new things...And always try to use the better means to show what you have to show...
I know if you don't know me some of my works are really differents and it's hard to recognize me. I think it's because of my graphic studies when I learn this ( Style equal fart)...But even for myself it's a big question and I still don't have the answers...about artistic statut, path and the rest

I totally understand where you are coming from. I too have many different styles and methods to creating art. Always challenging myself to try something different or approach a problem in a new way. It can be very scary at times...especially when dealing with a client whom expects certain results. I love all different mediums...so it is hard to choose just one and so there are many different styles that I create. Perhaps you share the same path?
Just noticed that your site is up...must take a look.

Bomba : Knowing your different approaches in your work, actually, we're speaking about the same thing :chug:
Some people think that I'm a mercenary but I hope I'll always work like this...
It's really exciting, having a new project and finding the best way to do it, not using each time the same recipe...
And yes it's maybe very SCARY than always doing the same kind of work. I've sometimes got problems wtih clients " We love your personal work but we want something strong and it's for commercial purpose !!" then I loose faith and don't know what to do...I've learned with time that when I'm doing only pictures I wanted to see it looks better. And I can now convince my clients to let me doing what I feel better...
And because there's so much different kind of art very exciting, I choose to not be a only-one-style-guy...
I think there's something linked to graphic studies, not illustration but graphic design, typography, photo...
One of the master at this is McKean...
Someone told me a day something that I really appreciate : "For each new artpiece you do, we don't know what it will be looks like but it's always succesfull".
(I'm not sure for the second part but I claim for the first ...)
if you look at my website, you'll see some very different stuff, my commercial oldies for videogames for example...
I've never had regrets doing even poor commercial projects because I've never learned so much...
Just a sample of a current project once more completly different :

Dave Mckean. Ah yea. He is innovative and on the cutting edge. Everytime I view his work, it blows my mind.
In the past, I tried to emulate his works, but found my own approach to things. The best enjoyment about working digital is not knowing how things are going to finish. Digital is so evolutional that there are milllions of variations and out comes. It's kinda like walking blindly until you hit something, then you stop. "AH! It's finished."
Your site is great. It's refreshing to see so many different works. And all are equally strong.

Talking about McKean, he also had a lot of strong influences when he begann....
Sienkiewickz, Witkin, Vaughan Oliver, Barron Storey...
And he's still sometimes influenced in his work (painters and others actual graphic designers...) But it's not really what we can called influences : he's always looking around for new ideas and it feeds his own mind and work. And when he uses this ideas, he completly appropriates them...
That's in my opinion the best way to progress...
There was a very very interesting discussion about art between Barron Storey and Dave McKean in the 1996 Barron Storey's WATCH ANNUAL...some geniuses...
There's also in the same book a copy of Storey's art notes Xeroxes that he gave to his students (including George Pratt, Kent Williams, Scott MCCloud, John Van Fleet...)
Still highly recommended !
Don't know if there's some people here on these board that came through his art classes...
I'm looking for more stuff about Storey. If someone knows where I can find more about him...
