Topic: Outbreak

The topic, as always, is completely open to interpretation, allowing for you to visualize your concept through any subject matter you deem fit. This is an illustration-based contest, and you will be expected to turn in a completed piece that stands on its own without the aid of a description. Both traditional and digital mediums can be used, but the majority of your piece must be painted/drawn with little use of photography and 3D modeling.

Submitting your entry: All entries are expected to be saved at web resolution and at a reasonable size (try to keep the width under 1000px, less than 450k). If you send me a huge piece, I will Save for Web at a smaller resolution resulting in a finished product that may not appear as you intended. Do that yourself if you care!

If you can host it on your web space instead of attaching it to the email, I'd appreciate it. Don't post your entries until the final day! You can show a few people you trust for comments, obviously, but we want the final post to come as one big unveiling. Don't screw it up or I'll CUT you.


Judging: Every round will be judged by an incredibly talented group of judges... the list is still being finalized, but it will be a relatively static panel throughout the competition. Each piece will be judged based on technical execution, creativity in the interpretation of the topic, and overall impact. All judges decisions are final. No whining!

Well, I think that's a fair decision... his match was a close one and he's got an endorsement from someone who has to give up his hard earned spot. Nic, if the extended date below still isn't enough time, Christian's got your spot if he wants it.

To everyone else, I extended the deadline from my initial short timeframe right off the bat so it won't fuck anyone's schedules or interrupt the flow of things like last round.

Saturday, April 12th 2008 is the real deadline.

That way we will actually STICK with this deadline for good, no extending, and it'll give us all a good bit of time to fit it in with all our actual paying jobs. Sound good?

Thanks for the props guys. I'm gonna think on this for 24 hours, cause I honestly feel that both Inverted Chalupa (MIke Bierek) and Zephyri had amazing entries which I'd feel odd about jumping ahead of. Plus I don't want to look like I whined my way back in haha

BTW, what was with Mike (Chalupa) not winning? Did people think he did a paintover or something? I love flaptraps's work and it was nice meeting him at the workshop, but honestly I would have picked Mike's any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Zephyri's I can understand cause Posh pulled out a big one on this. But I just feel both those pieces (not to mention RoboGabo's) seriously squashed me into the dust.

I'ld have to agree with varg here : the more pieces the better, so we should definitely fill the spot, but I reckon to respect the format of the contest someone from Nic's pool should be chosen (hopefully the runner up in votes if the info is available). That way the survival-of-the-fittest “match” system of separating all the participants into bouts of 5 is still viable. But, I've noticed Dirty C has accepted the open spot since I first read this thread at work earlier though, so what the hell really :) The judges would by far be the people best placed to make a call on this to begin with I say. Hell, they're the judges right ? My two cents at any rate.

And while I’m busy posting : mikedutton I really liked your first round piece, one of those that popped-out for me. The Charlie Brown motif on the kite was a nice extra-touch too that probably clinched it for me hehe Let's see what happens with this match 10 !

I've never thought I'd have to say this, but the possibility of me making it..is well, 10%. Both the computers I use have fried components, mainly the motherboards, due to a broken surge protector..

I had a good amount of work done on it, and I'm just upset that I might not be able to continue this LMS...that and wondering how to do the amount of work I have. DX

I'll see if I have time and make something on water colors,oils or crayons, but right now the priority is to get one of the computers up and running.

If I dont make it I'm horribly sorry everyone

I did not expect the extension! I sent my piece on April 12. I've a lot of work to do at the current period, yet I spent a weekend to create my piece. It's not my best, but personally, I wouldn't choose to be a puss out even if I only had just a rough drawing to send!
