I'm almost positive it's Hogarth since I'm doing studies from his books too. Such good references for musculature. Good job, Joakimart, keep doing those studies.

Impressive anatomy studies. Maybe you could do some on old people or children those are the edge.

February 20th, 2008, 03:26 AM
Vimmel Thanks you :), yes its Hogarth. It is a continuation on studies from the last year book.

Nexus Thanks :), I will! Have taken a pause to do some creative stuff for a while, but I will be back to this.

flamable Thanks! :)Yes that would be new for me for sure. I will surely try it out. It will be an interesting variation.

Hmanafi THans mate :). It’s interesting how everyone knows him. Make me happy, haha. I use traditional medium for my anatomy studies (often).

I have graphite pens, I used 0,3 mm so it’s makes pretty thin results. I pushed harder on the last one I think. And that’s the difference.

Aspiringpaintre Thanks you, :). I will make more.

More Hogarth and a quick head sketch.

Nice anatomy studies! Cool face too - maybe check the mouth though - the right side should be curving in more, don't think U should see that much. Might be the top lip too? Would re-check your ref.
Please post more!

Very nice posts so far. You have some pretty good cross hatching that looks awesome on those more mechanical figures like the feet that you posted. I do love the feet the most, they are just very intriguing to look at in their own right. Is there a reference image that looks like this or is this your idea for a foot? Either way it is really neat.

I like your crosshatching a lot, although on some of the figures it seems like you are either intentionally or non intentionally making the muscles stick out into separate chunks, not really connected to the whole. Especially the gluteus medius on your second and third sketches. I might be wrong on what that muscles those are but it is in that area. I see in your muscle sketches that you are good at making some muscles flatter and others more bulbous. I would suggest toning down that muscle in your sketches because it typically is not a very huge muscle. I am guessing however that this is a personal choice on the gluts which makes my whole suggestion bogus but in the off chance that it isn't there ya go. :D

Good job and keep it up!

Arteater Thanks you! :)

XSsithi Thank you mate! :)
Yeah, I like the cross hatching, feels good to do. :^^: Its Hogarth´s design on the feets, and I used ref for the traditional. But I like it too as you.

Flaskpost Thank you sir! :) Well. I will try, I had the problem it gets too hard to read. Anyway, I have in mind to do colour of those, or the once i make in the future so,. anyway. Will think of it.

James Wolf Thanks mister,:) yeah, I had some different ideas about it, and now I don’t know what it’s about. It’s his own spirit that is taking control of it outside him… Have other descriptions too. Anyway, all meaningless. Haha. I get pretty many thoughts when I draw, but I don’t write them down.

I think you are now taking steps I really really like. Before your work looked neat, and was unique because you kept close to similar shapes and details...but in the more recent posts its getting even better because we CAN recognize elements more clearly.

Abstract work is cool in its own way....but I'm more about building a unique design and getting those familiar elements into your work that we can relate to. glad i found your new book

Just one thing, Its not wise to reference Hogarth without a full knowledge of anatomy.
It will mess you up in the long run.

You're getting a nice grip on your...abstract style texture work? Not sure what to call it, however its 'harmonizing' a lot more than it used to and feels more fluid. The types of lines and shapes are more familiar with each other in a particular piece and dont feel cramped and random...but rather balanced. Thats my analysis anyways.

In your color post on http://conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1783975&postcount=40

I think there is some skewing in the head caused by the helmet being out of perspective? hard to notice sometimes but make sure things are lining up or they stand out. It feels like there is a bit too much space between the legs? maybe a bit of inner leg volume is missing?

The last painted environment in post #38 was pretty successful - you could push it further by enhancing the values since when the sun is at lower angles the shadows are much darker - there is less bouncing light from the sky.

It would be cool to see you branch out even further and design things you normally wouldnt. see ya!

Hey havent stopped here in a bit...hope things are going well.

The first one is neat, however the jaw feels rather small and narrow, or the eyes up a bit high making the nose feel long? Or maybe the girl simply looks like that ;) good study...add a small bit of other color to the shadows to make them richer. The second one is a really neat idea! I think you should experiement quickly with the colors...I feel like the woman and abstract shape should contain higher saturation than the bg - and perhaps that blue is not the best color for it...try a few other things as well. see ya

Hello! Well, i must say that you have more interesting designs poping out, your style is still there.

I would like to know what your aim is with your art, though? Some of the much more random designs, like at the end of the last page, I feel arent teaching as much practical skill as more specific studies. Are you doing art purely for hobby, or do you want to become great in specific aspects one day?

I think you should study faces a bit more, I dont sense a lot of knowledge in the cheek/jaw areas, they are sometimes poorly shaped etc. Mostly looking at the last woman you posted. Anyways, take care

wow you have some great designs here, i really love your digital work but i think in the last post, the cave needs to have more light from the lava, i think that should punch some atmosphere into it.
but that is my only critique great job :)
