P.O.W.! Challenge 4
Deadline: February 26, 2008, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.

Topic: "Maybe nobody will notice."

We're gonna try the "Quote" thing again... The topic listed above is an actual line of copy that MUST appear somewhere in your comic. Interpret any way you wish. Any media. B&W or Color.
As usual, you can present your solution as a minimum of TWO to a maximum of SIX pages which adhere to standard comic specs as below...

Standard Comic Book Size:

--Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
--Live art area: 6" x 9"
--Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)

This thread will be the place you ask questions on this challenge, trash talk, post WIPs and your final art. See the READ THIS FIRST thread for all specs.

Good luck.

P.O.W.! Challenge 5 will be posted before Tuesday Midnight, February 19, 2008.

Chance.

Maybe I'll give this a try. I'm sure that I can come up with some half finished piece of junk by the deadline

You do know how much I've always appreciated your finely-honed sense of competition and grab for the stars attitude...

I'm in for a 2-pager. Don't know if I'll finish, but I'm starting.

edit: Tentatively-complete page 1.

edit: Ditto page 2.

silly little question, but can we include words aswell or not, is it purely visual naratives?

I think everyone so far has used words. You don't have to, but you definitely can. Check out the earlier weeks if you want to see what people have done.

It's...a...comic...that...you...read... :P

That "read" part may or may not involve words...

My problem so far isn't whether there's words or not. It's just everything I come up with involves somebody naked and a lot of swearing...sigh... :/

Meh, sorry i was lazy and didnt even engage the brain. Of course its a comic.

Can we do a comic version of a film? - Im basically thinking of doing a Dr Strangelove type thing.

I'm...guessing yes, but if you're just using the movie as a starting point, try to interpret it your individual way rather than a straight depiction of the existing imagery. That might be seen as "ripping off" by some people. The exception, of course, would be if you were actually doing a recreation in print of that particular movie, where accuracy to the original would be important.

I'm having a brainfart and can't understand what "maybe nobody will notice" means. Does it mean that there isn't anybody and somebody is hoping that someone will notice or does it simply mean that somebody is hoping that nobody will not notice something? I have to be over thinking this...

"Maybe nobody will notice" is the kind of thing that a gang of little kids might say after they just blew up the house while their parents were away, or what an idiot says to you as you're on the way to a job interview just after he spilled coffee all over your crotch and pants front. It's usually interpreted as an ironic kind of thing--wishful thinking after we just did something stupid that NOBODY can miss seeing...like covering the cigarette burn in your host's new rug with your shoe...

Does that help?

Ha ha. I'm reminded of "The Running Man" when Arnold Schwartzenegger is wearing that ugly assed Hawaiian shirt and Maria Conchita Alonzo says she is going to throw up all over him.:punkgirl: :muscle:

I guess you might say that phrase if you and three of your friends were out hitchhiking in prison outfits, or you are a family member at a wedding where the bride is eight months pregnant.

Thank you for that clarification. I actually knew what it meant but I have a bit fever and it was messing with my thinking process. I should be fine now, sleep does wonders to a man. HA ha ha.

Maybe nobody will notice that today is the deadline. I got something largely done. I just need to erase stray marks, brush ink into some negative space, and eliminate a couple of ink marks caused by a brush slipping from my uncoordinated old hands.

My Pasadena roommate suggested we go out drinking later so I will probably have to leave "work" this afternoon to finish it up. (No problem).

Where's yours, Sundance? I noticed.

Hello, here is my finale. Darn, this is so terrible... it's almoust funny how bad it is.

Where's yours, Sundance? I noticed.

It has gone to the happy place where all unfinished artwork goes. It got a free express pass on my crashed (and now replaced twice over) motherboard.

Score one for the almighty pencil.

Just pestering you hoping you will finish one for us.

Sorry for my camera/lighting lameness. I intend no resemblance to anybody living or dead here except arttorney. This is just the only idea I had this week that I liked. Please nobody get your panties in a bunch over the subject matter.
