Wise decision dropping the anime style. It is necessary, no matter what style you want to achieve, to focus on basics and structure first. Foundations of art are important in any style. Definitely continue to work in pencil, drawing more figure drawings and drawings from life. Draw everything around you! After all, they'll probably make an appearance in your work later on.
Keep working and keep posting!!

It was wise to drop anime as was pointed out but it's influence is still visible in those later drawings. Since you have gone through the skeleton part of the structure of man use it fully. Draw a skelleton for every drawing. Including the skull. Use the skull as the basis of your face to avoid any possible animeisation.
And move on through the muscles of course :) And when youre finished with the course do it once more to really commit it to memory. And practice drawign the skeleton (and later on muscles) in all angles and you will see a great leap. You are on the right track so lets just Draw Draw Draw to improve :)

Hey man, nice effort here.
I just wonder... are you looking at shapes and the apple? If you actually set up those shapes with a light on them like that you will see that the shadows don't really look the way you have drawn them. There will be a highlight (which you have), a transition area (which you have), the there will be a core shadow (which you don't have) and then some reflected bounce light on the back part of the object (which you dont have).
Sometimes it is hard to see these things when you don't know what to look for. I recommend doing a search on the internet for a visual explanation of how light and shadow works. I think it will help you to see what I am talking about and then next time you look at a shape to draw you will actually see these things come into play.
I hope this helps a bit! Keep working hard, thats what it takes.... so I hear ;)

Hey there,
Nice work you've got going on here. I can see you're really delving into the anatomy material. I especially like the sketches you made of the hand bones. Smooth line work and balanced proportions. I wish I could give you some technical pointers to help you along, but my own drawing skills are not advanced enough for that.
However, you mentioned that you would like your line art to render more clearly on the screen. Check out this tutorial -> http://lilykoi.deviantart.com/art/Improving-Pencil-Quality-68374536
It details some nifty tech-tricks to make your lineart that much clearer. I hope you find it helpfull.
Keep up the good work!

lol, i like the april fools day joke. At first I was like... ok im not even going to leave a comment... haha.
Thanks for the comment on my sketchbook, thought I would swing by and return the favor.
It is great that you are starting out so young and serious about what you are doing. I wish that I got a little more serious about learning when I was 16... now I am 23 and trying to catch up on lost time.
Just keep practicing as much as you can. The main thing I think that you should be focusing on is making your line quality a bit stronger. Right now you have a pretty hairy line (when you draw a line it is really like 50 lines on top of eachother). Try to visualize what line you want to make and then hit it in one stroke. I need to work on this more as well...
Good luck and keep at it. Keep doing what you are doing and in a few years you will be REALLY good.

blastsniper, hows it going? well looking through your stuff I can give you simple advice- i see that you're doing studies of shapes- keep it up for sure! and when you do the studies of hte apple, try to do them in greyscale because you have to have to be able to control your values before you try to control colors. also your shadows arent correct because you really have to start looking into perspective also (loomis). Lastly dive into drawing from life! really! half my sketches in my sketchbook are from life and it is a blast! oh wait and one last thing, for your drawings- they are super light so go in photoshop and play around with the brightness and contrast. goodluck.

Hey, nice book!
I don't know if this has been said yet, but one thing I'm really noticing in your pencil work is loooots of really feathered lines... that's something you want to get away from. Instead of making a line out of 1000000 little lines, try to make it out of one. Of course, this is a hard thing to do, but trying is what's important right? All those little lines show that you're hesitant about drawing whatever it is that you're drawing. Of course, as your skills improve and your knowledge of anatomy/perspective/everything continues to add up, this will become easier.
You're definitely on the right track though. Lots of studies, anatomy, muscles, still lifes and the lot... just keep doing what you're doing, and you're bound to improve loads. Keep it up! Good luck!

Hey man,
It's good to see you getting serious with your drawings and really going to learn fundamentals. The best advice that I can give you right now is to really work on drawing exactly what you see. I highly recommend getting ahold of a copy of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" if you can. It has a lot of exercises for getting you in the right mindset. :)
Another great thing that you could do is start doing quick 30 second sketches of models to really get some action flowing in your drawings. Try going to http://www.posemaniacs.com/blog/ and using their "30-second drawing" utility. I'd recommend at least 20 of these drawings every time you sit down. It's hard at first but you'll really start getting a good sense of movement out of it. Then you can post your favorites so that you have something you're proud of to show as progress, instead of focusing on the crappy ones (and trust me, there will be many of those lol :D).
Keep doing those and try to whittle your time down to 5-10 seconds and I guarantee you'll see a lot more life in your drawings. :)
Finally, always always always strive to improve your anatomy. :D I see you're working on that, and that's good. Don't stop! :D
Good luck!

I am so envious of you, I didn't start drawing properly with a community until I was 18...
Anyway you have started off really well, its awesome that you dropped the anime that screwed my skill over to. Keep up the anatomy its really important. Try and look around for some raw resources to learn from like anatomy or medical books from your local library or like me just mass download copyright material from torrents. I also strongly recommend you draw from life like in a bus or out in a park some were. Most importantly there's no rush, go at your own pace, all most all of the amazing artists on this site are in their late 20's or older. Before you no it you'll be awesome.
By the way I did chem to... all I did was draw to ;)

Hi there. Just skimmed your sketchbook and thought I'd offer some insight. The skeleton in your latest post is shows lots of improvement from your earlier posts. Though the anatomy isn't flawless, there is undoubtedly great improvement in your technique. Good job :)
I feel that you might want to focus on more referenced studies (preferably from life, but good photos can suffice at times). By doing so, you'll probably see the fastest improvement as long as you remain committed and actively seek to do better with each new piece you make. Check out some books by Bridgman and Loomis to get a better idea of how to think of the figure in planes (there's a link on this site that lists hundreds of free e-books, Bridgman and Loomis are included).
All the best :)

hey Blastsniper,
Okay this is a good start. I like those skeleton studies, those are indeed a improvement from the last page. I think I already saw the suggestion but I recommend studying...wait for it...from life. You'll hear this a lot but it is true but here is the thing, take your time and go slowly. Take those apple studies that you did on the first page. Your next still life you should spend many hours on it man, heck spend a whole day if you have to to really understand how values work, colors, ect...
These things take time to understand, really closely observe what your looking at and try to draw and paint from life as accurately as possible. Keep studying man and working on those drawings.
By the way, I always recommend this thread to new forum members. Take a look at the first pages and then go to the later pages. All it takes to get good is dedication and studying hard:)

Nice monster designs! They're really creative. Like frittzel said, working on proportions with Loomis would be great help. If you haven't gone through figure drawing for all it's worth, i think you should.

Thanks man.
But yea i know i need some loomis injected, i've downloaded that book but haven't really put time into it. When i draw usually its on a random place when i'm not that sober anymore and just put some mindfart on paper. Butyea loomis, i'll study that stuff this week.

keep those studies flowing dude, some life drawings really help aswell, go out on the street and try and capture people with just a few lines, it's hard but very rewarding.

You've got a lot patinece and creativity, now You must study nature to make your drawings more real. Still lifes and all these books will help you improve so fast, that's hard but i bet you'll very pleased overall. Good luck in making folio man!

I don't really have patience.. Drawing from real life is easier said than done. I can't concetrate on a object while i'm drawing, i usually sketch up something if i draw something from a reference. And after the sketch is on paper, i add the rest from my mind.
But this week i will try to make some still lifes, migt go out and buy even some paint for it.

Hey dude, you've got a nice sketchbook here.. if I may suggets, you should try to focus (at least for a while) on doing some anatomy studies to improve your knowledge of the human form and muscles, and also, try your hand at doing gestures.. only gestures, try to make them flow, know what I mean?
All your poses are a bit stiff right know, you need a bit of movement in them..., get some photos of people dancing and jumping and stuff like that, and copy their gestures...
Otherwise, keep at it!

Thanks dude, basicly i developed my own way of drawing bodies, which i do not like but automaticly do everytime. Which is a single movement line and then draw everything around it from my mind. I'm really not used at using referention.. But i promise my next post will have some studies.
