Liquid: Its come on fantastically. Best guardian I have seen so far!.. my 2 cents, push back the sky a touch and bring forward the front waterfalls a bit.. (possibly a bit of splash off rocks etc)

serhc nero was a god, also could be concidered as a guardian, plus if the world is flat, then the sea therefore must have an end, and that end would more than likely have some kind of waterfalls like a river. So your not totally off the mark, you just need to refine the scenery a little

Pretty creepy start so far, I would work the background to make it look like water falling and him coming through the falls. It looks a bit too electric at the moment and nothing is really giving me the impression of a water environment other than the crab-look you got going on. Also, maybe try adding some highlights to the eyes, or possibly make them glow? Having a bit more detail there would draw the viewer in towards the head more.

Great start, love the design you put on the body armour/skeleton.

JL.Alfaro - reminds me of Vivec and the Ordinators from Morrowind, a good thing. My crit is that figure/boat don't seem to fit the background - I think.

Liquid Penguin - Very good values, the back falls look too soft. I read the fall above the creature as being on the same plane as it's neck, so, a splash.
misledtomisery - love your creature. Your environment bugs me. The falls are to equally spaced apart.

sellis - I love the feel of your piece. It's cool to see you piecing the characters together from separate sketches. I almost feel more strongly about the one without the dam/river/fall in the background, though - it's like a fantasy, free-flowing setting versus man-made, geometric frames.

Perhaps, maybe, some light spilling across his shoulder area.
That is a moon, right. Try darkening the falls, as they would be in shadow. Pay attention to the upper edge of the falls, as light penetrates water. Maybe, something to break up the lower portion, bridge, ruined bridge, etc. I like the angle, Is the creature emerging from the falls? If so, water/blood would be hitting his top surfaces (shoulders) and be splashed outward towards the top of the image, think palm tree. This with the moonlight shinning through it may look very interesting.

@corrick: the piece is really good but imho the papery flaps on our right look like they reveal an orange surface rather than fire/heat.

"The wayfarers had travelled long up this mysterious river, in this unknown and unexplored land. They came to a waterfall and by the side of this huge waterfall was a gap in the mountain wall, which led forward to glory and gold. But before the travellers reached the gap - a mighty quake they felt. From a piece of the mountain which looked like it had been carved into a chair, a monstrous creature awoke from its slumber. In it's hand it held a gigatic lute, and by the side of the gigantic stonechair a huge blade stood resting. The creature was a guardian of this river, only the ones whom it thought was worthy could enter through the gap in the mountain wall, by playing its lute it gave one passage to the world beyond. The unworthy though, it would slash and smash with its sword.

The expiditions leader, Magnus Röde, climbed the mast of his longship, drew his sword and yelled with all his might to the creature.

'-I am Magnus Röde, and I have comed a long way from the land of the snow and ice. I will not let you stand infront of my way!'"

So here is my final, in all reality it's not done, i was just so tired of this image, if i were to make it better i think it would just be a complete redo, but yea this is like my first real submission to anything on this great site, i've enjoyed some of the great peices here, it was nice to be apart, and the experience was best of all. i havnt done a digital painting in ages, gotta get on it i could use alot of practice.
