k well i just realized that the zebra had no shadow so... hee it is again. new and improved :)

The shadow definitely added contrast to the background. Always consider what you want to focus on in a picture. Contrast makes focus-- color, size, proportions, value, light and shadow, etc.

Very nice. I like how there's such an emotional feeling, even though there are no human figures.

This a very nice piece. I really like the zebra against the ruins.

I think the shadow is unnecessary. It's what Harvey Dunn called "obligation shadows"... that is you feel obliged to put them in your picture so the picture can be more like nature. But you only make something so that it conveys a point, not duplicate nature.

So the shadow adds nothing to the picture, and in fact adds too much black at the bottom and weighs down the picture. Instead of looking at the total effect, now I look at the shadow.
