I'm torn by this cartoon. Inside I feel that I shouldn't like this cartoon, but man...I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. The cast is great and the topics just crack me up big time. I just love Unlce Ruckus..."Praise white Jesus"..."I told you a Ni@@$& that black could'nt fight". I'm laughing my ass off right now just thinking about it. My question is, how do white people feel about this cartoon? Do they like it in private? My fiance says that I should be ashamed of myself for watching that mess.

I've never heard of it, but it sounds funny. (I'll have to go look it up.)
If a black man called me "cracker", no matter how serious he is, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from laughing. Some things are just funny.
The world will be a better place once we all realize that we're all the same, no matter what we look like.

I love boondocks. Get the DVD for Uncle Ruckus commentary, it's so horribly hilarious! "Chinese people...they ain't human...they're bones are hollow...like bird bones"
I think it just pokes fun at stereotypes that Blacks cast on themselves XD
I know there are Whites that like it and some feel they shouldn't like it because it's "Racist" and puts down Blacks. The sad part is that there ARE Blacks that act that way XD

I hate it.
Its the cartoon equivalent of watching Carlos Mencia go on and on and on and on and on about how different races are different. And how retards are funny. And look at me, I can make a funny retard voice.
Also, the creator is apparently an asshole. I have a teacher that storyboarded some of the episodes, but quit because the guy is a cock.
Take away the shock value from the show and its a piece of shit.

I've watched just one episode where a rapper shows off his crib, all the swearing is kind of funny.
How about South Park, I think it's awesome but would it be still be good without all the shock value ?

Carlos Mencia is not funny and I do feel offended for every race he talks about! But I haven't seen any episode on the Boondock where they make fun of other races. The show is hilarious and I did feel weired watching it at first but I don't miss an episode anymore! It reminds me of the old South Park, throughout all the poopie language theres a moral in some episodes! On a little side note, The Concept artist, Lesean Thomas (http://lesean.deviantart.com/), is awsome!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boondocks_%28TV_series%29#Reception
Anyways I guess his use of the N word is achive the realism of todays rappers and children use, The reason I stoped listening to some rappers and radio station. The second season is more on the comedic side then morals like its first season. Like its MLK episode and R-Kelly and such. The show fills in the little whole in my heart that The Chappelle show use to be!

I love Boondocks. Part of what makes it so good is it separates Cultured blacks from ghetto blacks and goes into some deeper thinking about the differences. Oh, and the kids know karate, totally random but hilarious. :lounge:

Thats as racist as saying there is a difference between white trash and the middle class. (i.e. it isn't racist at all)

Aaron McGruder is probably one of the smartest modern social commentators of our generation. If he had some conflicts with your teacher, maybe ur teacher was the cock, ever consider that?
And light, there was nothing racist about that comment, it was class not race directed.
I loved his comic strip, and I love the show. My favorite episode is the BET episode which was never aired because it ridiculed BET execs, and they filed a grievance against SONY to keep them from airing it.
If the enemy of my enemy is my friend, how can any1 hate Aaron McGruder??? BET is the devil incarnate and is the worst thing to happen to not just black youth, but any impressionable urban youth...

I can't find the interview/post on the AS forums now, but McGruder is basically the reason they had to get a new animation studio for the second season. Too many conflicts with the first team. And he supposedly still doesn't get along much with the new one. I mean it's his work and all, sure, but love or hate the guy it seems no secret that he's a pain to work with.

I hate carlos mencia. Every single one of his acts are so extremely predictable i get more enjoyment out of staring at the wall.
In regards to the Boondocks, I watched it when it was still new, and thought it was ok. Nothing special, but ok. I just watched an episode to check myself, and sure enough it's not terrible. Seems to poke fun at itself more than it does other ethnicities.

Actually it's basically the most common racist justification period. "I dont hate *all* black people, just the ones that act differently than me."

the show deals with social political and economic stereotypes in a way that makes you think, and asses your standings after your done laughing.Cool beans in my book.

It's fun to see how far people will go to pretend they are not racist.

I used to read Aaron McGruder's comic strip a couple years back and I LOVE Lesean Thomas, he is one of my favorite artists. I just think the whole show is supposed to be a kind of satire commentary on certain issues. Although, the use of the n word does make me cringe sometimes. ...and i think the boondocks pokes fun at black people more than any other race.

Boondocks is an incredible show! It puts its finger straight into the heartbeat of racism and the life of Black Americans and holds it there.
If any of you feel the show is promoting racist stereotypes (I mean come on the entire thing is showing how ridiculous it all is) then you need to watch the Dr. Martin Luther King episode.
The speech from that is so good.

Who said anything about hating anyone? If i say a tangerine and an orange are different, am I racist against fruit? Get over it. Part of what makes Boondocks so good is it puts these issues in the black community on the forefront.

i think there might be some danger in making the distinction between 'ghetto blacks and cultured blacks' though. ....and yes the fact that the kids know karate is REALLY cool.

what, we're not allowed to distinguish subcultures and classes now? i'd say generalizing all people of a single race (that is, skin color and general physical traits) is more dangerous than acknowledging reality.

Relevant; I haven't met one of my friends yet, of any race, who hasn't found the Boondocks absolutely hilarious.

light, why dont you re-read what blue first posted, then re-read what you said, then re-read his response. Lastly, re-read ur response, u keep trying to skew his words into a racist comment, just cuz he said ghetto and black, doesnt make it a racist remark.
On that note, im gonna go watch Do The Right Thing

I can say boondocks doesnt really makes a show of differences between black. More of how the Rap (not hip hop) but Rap culture has an effect on the on the black community. And some episode Like these recent episodes. Like you see Riley being totally into whose more gangsta, whats gangsta, and jewlery, and negative language. Like todays rap. You got Tom whose gotten his education and talks with no slang and hes looked down on in his community because hes what they say "not black enough"! Kind of like when Huey went back into his old neighborhood and they made fun of him cause he moved into a better neiborhood or a "white neighborhood"! We see Huey (and sometimes his grandpa) as a symbol of a positive stong black kid who would fight to save his idiot brother, Riley (and sometimes his grandpa), to provent him chasing after those bad influences! I see those two as symbol of the current stuggle of what the black community face today! And I love that show, and could really care less if Aaroun is an assh*le, he a pretty cool contravercial dude!
And BET contradicts themselves waay to much!

Firstly, i don't believe what Blue said was racist and I certainly don't want this to be an 'attack Blue thread'. As far as distinguishing subcultures and classes, i was just under the impression that 'ghetto black' or 'cultured black' are neither classes (especially not class distinctions) or subcultures.
I'm not an anthropology expert but i just thought an example of a subculture would be like skateboarders or like a punk subculture.
Perhaps it's the wording that does bother me. It's almost as if there was something wrong with that race that those distinctions would even have to be made in the first place. And I'm definitely not implying that anyone commenting in thread feels this way. 'Ghetto black' and 'white trash' are EQUALLY bad. But to distinguish groups of people according to negatives like that IS dangerous, it doesn't celebrate the differences between people, it only says: here are the BAD ones, here are the GOOD ones.

I like Boondocks, for some reason I am really fond of stinkmeaner(I believe that's his name.) He is just really funny. The two boys are really cool too. Huey is the deep thinker and I really like his character personality. Riley is just flat out hillarious. xD The episode about Christmas was pure gold.:D
My brother got me into watching the show, he talks about Ruckus' commentaries all the time! xD
As for Carlos Mencia I only seen like 5 minutes of his show once. I wasn't particularly interested in it. I don't know much about him though.

My favorite episode has always been "A Date With the Health Inspector".
The episode itself was good, not great--but the climactic third act, involving a convenience store robbery that acts as a disturbingly apt allegory for the war in Iraq, was perfection.

Learn the difference between RACIAL comments and RACIST comments.
Racial: "There seem to be a lot of Blacks that play in the NBA"
Racist: "All that Black people are good for are shooting hoops"
