I'M REVIVING THIS THREAD - 3. jan. 2010

I turned 16 a few days ago, so to say.

Constructive criticism will gladly be received!

Your creatures are kinda adorable, I like the last one a lot. :) To me it's easier to draw humans than animals but animals are more fun to draw than humans.

A sketch I did on the plane. It's a pink monster called Charlie. He lives under children's beds, and lures them to him telling them about a land full of candy. Here he is disturbed by a doll while reading his daily dose of comics c:

Hey there, you have some awesome art!! Your really good at rendering and your knowledge on anatomy is great, Im so jealous haha <: Keep on posting, I cant wait to see more! (:

Khanran
January 4th, 2010, 01:52 PM
Thank you so much! :D

Here are some more sketches! The two first ones are from around December. The second one is a concept for a thing I have in mind, about human greed and destruction and such. The last ones are some observational sketches (except for the one with striped pants, tattooed head and the boots), which I really need to make more of:

These are some unfinished backgrounds I've had around on my mac for a while. I'm not really sure what to do with them. The one with the fields is still quite raw and unpolished, but I am starting to take a liking to the cloudy one. Not sure if I'm liking the tree to be the subject :/

Hi Khanny, nice to see you here too :)

Gosh, I love your style... Awesome to see sketches from you! I'm very fascinated by your way of filling your pictures with emotion.

Khanran
January 7th, 2010, 01:01 PM
Thank you Mokinzi! Your comments always make me smile :) Nice to see you too!

Some more things:

The first is some concept art for a specie I've invented. I think I will call them Snjór, after the islandic word for snow <: Not quite sure of their anatomy, especially how they move and how their skeleton looks like, but I think I could draw some reference from yaks. The snjór looks a bit like them.

The second one is from end of December. I did some sketches of my characters (I have more, just need to get them through the scanner first), and a wintery scene just to get in christmas mood :)

Third one is of Charlie.

Fourth one has some hand studies, a bat drawn with a poor pen, some marker things and a annoying pikachu.

I love the happy ginger cat in post #3! and the little creature with the fish on its head in post #7 really brought a smile to my face!

I'll definetely be keeping an eye on this thread, thanks fr the inspiration :)

I just got hang of Painter, so I have been fooling a bit around with it. The giraffe is a old sketch I did some time ago, this is the progress picture:

Khanran
January 10th, 2010, 02:17 PM
I'm not gonna do much more with this now, but I could need some advice from fresh eyes. How are the colors? The giraffe is bothering me a bit (picking colors in Painter is hard :( )

Wolfyu
January 10th, 2010, 03:45 PM
Hmm...since the giraffe is supposed to be the focus of the picture, I'd recommend putting some of the red from the house's roof into the giraffe somehow. My eye keeps going to the house instead of the giraffe because of the red/green color combo on the right, I'm guessing. I LOVE the yellow and blue smoke, though!

Khanran
January 10th, 2010, 03:58 PM
Oooh, that is an excellent idea! I had not thought about that. Thank you very much! I'll try fixing it! : D

Bellachime
January 10th, 2010, 05:12 PM
fff I love your colour choices so much, they're so appealing haha <33
Umm What Wolfyu said is great, adding red would definitely draw your eyes to the giraffe more. Perhaps making the giraffe a brighter yellow might help too? Right now he appears to be almost the same creamy yellow as the clouds, so maybe making him a more yellowy yellow (lol id say hue or value but i can never remember which is which) might make him stand out more? I dont know, goodluck though it's looking really good so far (8

Aww, thank you both, and thanks for the tip Bellachime! I'm working on the giraffe now! I will probably post it tomorrow :D

Here are some things I've done today!

The birdy was done with reference. Painter is so so much fun!

The rest are sketches done during school (now I see I wrote the wrong date on them. I still haven't realized that we're in 2010 now!)

Khanran

Lav
January 16th, 2010, 04:54 PM
you should try using after effects, or flash, for animation, it's really fun and you'll be able to do a lot more things in it :)

hey khanran, thx for the words in my sb, really like your stuffs too,
you have cool characters in there and you have a great approach with colors,
i already see a great style and universe in your works, i'm sure you'll make something with all that..
My favourite one is the first pencil sketch of post #22, the fox or rabbit with the hat! really awesome, keep on posting!

Time for some more sketches! The last one is a character I am developing. I'm not too satisfied with how he/she looks right now, but I guess that I will get there later.

Lav
January 24th, 2010, 10:06 AM
i like the direction you're going with your last character, can't wait to see more of it :D

Vatsel
January 24th, 2010, 12:15 PM
Your method of coloring looks good, but when you try the "realistic" approach, the values don't look good. See if some still lifes will sort it out :)

Lovely sketches!

Khanran
January 27th, 2010, 09:58 AM
Lav: Thanks! I'm glad you like it :D
Vatsel: You are right! I do have to practice more :) thanks for the criticism!

I've also suddenly realized that I hardly ever do any environmental drawings anymore. What happened? >:U I really need to work more on perspective, dynamic postures, coloring, anatomy +++ more studies!

Here is another character. He/she chants and seduces people. I think. At the moment. Might develop into someone else. But it does constantly hum a weird melody. I'm starting to get some fresh ideas for a world.

Nettle_Mountain
January 29th, 2010, 11:02 AM
Really fine colours, do you draw humans also? more of them would be nice, like posemaniacs style

Khanran
January 30th, 2010, 04:22 AM
Thank you, Nettle Mountain :) I do draw humans, but not as often as I should. I'll try to do some posemaniacs till next time!

I think it's funny how I draw my character Khanran different every time he appears.

Khanran
January 30th, 2010, 05:28 PM
Here are the posemaniacs! Good practice, I should do this more often, seeing as I spent too much time on every single pose. Gotta learn the basics first!

nice updates khanran :) How long do you spend on drawing a pose? Because it takes me an absurd long amount of time compared to others as well but i think after doing a lot of 30 seconds drawings with posemaniacs you'll get faster.
I like the hungry guy you made, it reminds me of the creatures from a coca cola compaign not long ago but then cooler :)

I love the fact that you have picked up on proper drawing that early. I am not that old with 21, but at 16 I was still oblivious of the art of drawing and thought that progress would come with time, not with training. So, heads up for that!
I love the way you express your imagination within your skill-level, and still study and learn. Your sb has a really nice balance of "private" and "study", and I hope that I might get there myself one day. Keep it up, great stuff you have here :)
