The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 10th of February.

The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras....and can be in any media, digital or traditional is fine.

In addition to this, participants can choose to do a study of Action "head profile", in any media. Black and White or Colour is fine.

:muscle: Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!:muscle:

PS...critting each other is highly encouraged!! Let's help each other get better!

MARMENTIDO - welcome. good stuff there, keep it up
ArtFish - nice, could do a few more. watch the proportions man. the heads look a bit on the small side.
Anthis - hey man, nice to see the chicks in there. good work. keep it up.

Ok dudes, i didn't have time to do any gestures this week :( that really sucks. i've been slacking off way too much lately and i'm totally not happy with that. will try to work on my time management from now on. anyway. here are some profiles for the optional.

Heya Metal Mike,

sorry for my absence, I've been a bit busy :) But I fully intend to make a return to the Spartan camp, it's quite good practice.

But I have a question - could you do a series of drawings showing how you make your gestures? I have my method rock solid down now, but it is a bit messy, and I am considering doing a change. Do you draw construction lines en mass down first, and then draw in the blocks, forms, and then anatomy? Or do you skip the construction lines altogether and draw masses and anatomy? Or even skip masses altogether and draw anatomy straight on? That I find absolutely impossible to do, and am wondering how you guys do it.

Thanks :)

RabbiSatan - Nice to see you back man. looking forward to seeing more of your stuff dude. ok, i'm struggling with the gestures as well, every one is different an i approach them differently. sometime i start with the head, then with some thing else. I try to teach myself to do the biggest shapes first (head, ribcage, hips). then go for the rest but that's a bit difficult for me and i 'm really struggling with keeping things simple.

Ok i did this recording a while back, it's a bit too bright so let me see if i can do something tomorrow. i'm planning to do more of these anyway since i want to keep video track of my progress.

Woo, that was a quick response :)

Ah, from the video you posted, you're doing them from reference, I see.

I'm doing mine strictly from imagination to train myself, but I guess that only goes so far, so I'll need to find myself some poses.

I'll do a quick demo on paper to show how I do my gestures. I'll do them step by step, I've got a few methods, but they're variations of each other, so they're not worlds apart.

Thanks for the quick response though :).

No problem man. It's cool that you do your from imagination. i do some too. it depends on how busy i am during the week actually.

it's a good idea to do stuff from ref at first to get a better understanding of the figure, proportions and anatomy. if you don't know this kind of stuff and go from your imagination, how do you you know what you're doing wrong?
the thing with using refs is also to be aware not to copy the image but just have a quick glance at it, kind of remember the pose and try to draw it as quickly as possible and then check it with the photo you used. great way to study and find you weak spots.

good luck and can't wait to see your progress images.

MARMENTIDO; Welcome! glad you decided to join us. No bad manners at all, just hop on. Thanks, and yea, I am a student, but nothing art related though ;P
You're doing a good job at exploring different media, means of drawing, and subjects. There's a lot of variation in your work. Got a feeling you don't lack the inspiration. I'd advice to back it up with some anatomy practice. I'm not sure whether you used any reference, but I'd advice it. You don't have to copy stuff, but it's good as a guideline. Will give you some good insight on proportions and how the body works. Hoping to see you more often! very lively and natural stuff.
ArtFish; Hi again! ah well, 5/50, good thing you're in either way. Just do a few each day. Not like I usually do that.. but I know it works :| Perhaps you should try to "build up" your animals a bit more. Start out (sketchy) with a big round shape for the pelvis, add a smaller one for the chest, add the head, etc. Once the proportions are there, you can nail the thing. Not sure about your work flow, but somehow it seems you're kind of drawing 'around' the shapes you see or imagine. Could be wrong here, just an idea ;o See you next week!
MeTaL-Mike; Yea... well.. they've always been weaker. I sometimes even have them swap gender halfway trough. Guessing the problem is that the studying I do (bridman etc) seems to be more male-focused. Don't mind drawing girls though... should get better at that ;P
Pretty nice profiles. Bottom 3 necks seem a bit thin. Noticed the cross hatching and shading is quite solid in some areas. Some details like the nose in the smallest head came out very nice. The one in the top right is fun too ;P

Nice to see those videos too. Fun stuff to watch. RabbiSatan; I'll see if I can whip out a 'tutorial' too, if I get the time (didn't start this weeks 50 yet). Apart from that, I'd advice to always have some reference nearby, unless you know the whole human body by heart of course ;) Always useful as guidance.

Anthis: ya i usually do the "skeletal" structure sketching first but then i end up putting in like 70 lines haha
should work on that...xD
