Hey Jackson, welcome to the boards, you have a good early pass on this guy going so far, I'm liking how his face is coming out so far, though it needs a bit a softening and a bit more attention in the brow and eye areas.

the main things that are catching my eye with this piece so far is you proportions and portrayal of the anatomy.

1)feet: your feet are looking a bit alien, the toes need a bit more thickness to them, the flow into them from the leg doesn't look anatomically correct, and theres volume issues with both your heel and overall root of the foot. Your arch seems a bit extreme too, focus on a more subtle approach with the toes, and maybe scale the whole foot in a bit, it seems stretched

2) Lower legs: Is it just me, or is the Left legs calf bigger than the rights, it may be the camera but its looking about 50% bigger , huh, the inner side of the calf near the shin needs to be softened a bit, too much of a trenched feel.

3) the upper legs: the backs of the knees are tooo pinched look at some more ref there, your missing a good amount of mass there as it looks like your stressing the tendons too much. the kneecaps look too carved, not like bone under skin, soften up and focus more on the patella's shape. the quads as wells as all the other muscles are carved out too much, these muscles lay on top of each other and you have given them too thick of a separation (more of this trenched look) also spend more time on how they work with he kneecap

4) Don't be squeamish, give the guy a dong: if your gonna do an anatomical sculpt why leave off anatomy? You gave the guy nipples, and these things are pretty much useless, genitalia is not taboo, it natural, if all else fails, it'll help you get real good at wrinkles.

5) Ass: seems a bit small and perky, focus on some gravity, check out where the muscles attach, and think about fatty deposits

6) Stomach: Abs are looking okay but would like to see a better camera view, I would say they look too similar in proportion to each other though, and the external oblique could use some softening.

7)Chest: ribs, are those his ribs or starts at serratus anterior? His armpit looks muddled, there are some awesome forms muscles create under the arm, really check out some ref there. the pectoral muscles seem too idealized, and a bit flat, add some volume there and fix the location of the nipples.

8 ) Back: Lats look muddled, soften a bit and focus more time on how those muscles stretch on into the arm, shoulder blade area needs some attention, you have a lot of shape there but most of it seems over sized for the muscles that are there and not enough sign of the shoulder blades, the space in between the traps seems too extreme too (you need to tone down the "CUT" look overall, he's way too defined and its making it seem unrealistic)

9) Upper arm: Triceps, simply not there. brachioradialis is hard to spot, shoulders too bulbous. The insertion of the arm into the back looks really off as well

10) Lower arm: Elbow looks missing and its area looks really off, check out how the muscles transfer over th bone from the upper arm into the elbow, as well as how the skin folds there.

11) Head: asside from what I already said, ear looks chewed up. take a chance to look at bald peoples heads, his is too smooth, work around where he should have bony landmarks, knotches, and skin folds

This is a pretty good start, keep working at him and spend some time with a couple good anatomy books, can't wait to see the end result :)

Hello long time no post, I have started up again once more with my anatomy study, took a bit longer than I wanted but I finally got to it. Here is a male and female I am going to work on for quite a bit, at this moment they're in a default pose but I plan on posing them sometime soon. Hope its okay I can post naked models, critiques are always welcome, and thanks for viewing.

nice second body, kept things more subtle and its an improvement over the last.
I think the main things to tackle on him right now would increase the size of the gluets, his butt still seems a bit too small (bout 15% bigger), and his abdomen seems a bit muddy, the belly button region is too extreme and his abs should be given another look at, the lower region seems too wide. And revisit the back of the arm where the lats meet the arm and the shoulder runs into the tricep. again, quite an improved sculpt and look forward to seeing the end results

Thanks Essinym, I am slowly working on it, and learning every step of the way I did some more work on the front, and I started on the hands one of the most difficult parts to sculpt and get right atleast for me it is, I revisited the areas you mentioned and others as well, Ill be spending the majority of my time in the lower subDs levels to shapeout my forms much better specially the hands. Thanks for viewing.

Penis cause it's a male, other wise it'd be a female and a vagina!
Good progress on these dude. i think the penis is possibly to think at the base. good work, some times it's good to put a little warning in the title of the thread when it comes to nudity and stuff like that. some people can be sensitive :)

I like it! That is some high quality zbrushing! (I think it is Zbrush) On the first image, I never thought I would say this, but there might even be too much detail. Unless you are using the model as an educational piece, you would never need to have that much detail. It would be hard to rig and animate, and it most images generally have clothes on the characters. That last image, though. That looks almost real. The proportions are all pretty much perfect, except for the thumbs. I think they need to be moved further up the hand. The join of the base of the thumb is too far back and the whole hand suffers as a result. Other than that, the whole model is really good!

Hybrid_75: yes i will make to next time.

Brookesy: Thank you, thats the best comment I have ever gotten online and I appreciate it alot though I think that a lot of work can still be put into this I am slowly working on it to improve it. the model Im using to understand anatomy practice for my own studies, both models are in zbrush but i build a base mesh in maya I have a low level mesh that could be rigged and animated. I will fix the thumbs and work more on those hands, i should have an update this week I hope. I and im also posing the model for a better read of anatomy how muscles work under different poses.

I am also starting a Michaelangelo sculpture first i will make a Marquette then a 3d version soon so I might combine the thread to keep things simple, and also a look alike practice, thanks for viewing and as always critiques are always welcome.

Hi Jackson,

Is that one of the standard Zbrush matcap materials? Or is it custom?

Thanks

Lack of penis does not equal vagina! Not in drawings anyway, most people draw them without ... anything there at all.

The penis does look a little funny, I'd think it shouldn't taper/flare so much, have shaft of fairly even thickness and don't attach it so it flares (?) into the body.

Really in awe of the muscle attention here.
