Air Cavalry Assault Vehicle from the not-too-distant future, a sort of flying armoured personnel carrier for a squad of 10 troopers.

Created for 6-7 hours from scratch (drawing included). textures incoming.

Some Texture work, about half-way through (about 6 hours totally during the weekend). Changed cockpit. Some Unwrapping required, but will do that later (am too lazy now :))

A minor update (spent about 15 min. on it) -- some touches on the side hull texture and the wings. Soon more to come :)

Man that looks great!! I take it your going to finish those little flap thigns, though, right?

Very interesting concept, you pulled it off nicely. The texture looks really cool on the ship, like rusted metal equip with battle scars :). Something that bugs me though, very small, is that the name has quotes around it ("The Grim Avengers") I don't know why, but that seems odd to put that on a plane/hover thingy/whatever.

A few more things, like the lack of reflections on the cockpit, the tubey things with lack of texture, and the inside of the compartment are just small things, but I take it you are going to fix those.

Man I really love this, is it going to be put in a game or something? Or just for the ol' portfolio?

I only ave one comment and I think its an important one for any modeller doing mechanical things with lots of similar parts. In this case I am refering to the turbine fans. The front fans are obviously just scalled versions of the back fans( or vice versa ). What this does is cause depth perception miscues, particularly in the front and back 3/4 shots. It also looks abit lazy. I understand the temptation to do this but keep in mind the visual cues the that you are implying. A better solution would have been to build and scale the housing/cowl and fan and then build the details like pipes fittings. access hatches, hinges, handles etc at one scale and use them on both sizes of fan. This lets the view know that they are truelly two different sizes of fans but that some components are universal through out the vehicle. Perspective and foreshortening of the shared components will provide this visual clue. Also since this suggestion is grounded in realism the viewer has an easier time accepting the image as real.
Like I said this applies to all mechanical repetition of parts.

Hope that is useful to you.

Keep up the great work.

your textures are doing the same thing to the fans. Particularly the lettering. There i no reason the lettering on the fan would be smaller just because the fan is smaller. The brain just doesnt like it and thinks its a distance cue because it wants the lettering to be the same size.

Thank you very much for the response, Billy! I am fully aware of the issues you're touching, my excuse being the WIP status of the project. My workflow is a bit odd regarding these aspects of modeling (I am full aware how capricious this is :)) -- I go after simple duplication (both geometry- and texture-wise) in order to avoid being bored to death by the model, and once I have the geometry and UV's applied go back and make the differences. A bit upside-down, but since I am doing these models for the fun (and the portfolio :)) I tend to be mild on myself.

Now, the spamming continues :) I managed to snatch an hour today and went on with texturing. Fairly soon the basic texture will be applied and the UV's adjusted. And THEN the serious texturing begins :)

Thats one bad-ass vessel man!!!

I especially like the rear gun, reminds me of those large WW2 planes like the flying Fortress.
